I have him #1 because he's so damn smart with the puck in all 3 zones. All 4 are smart with the puck but I never see a mistake from Miro whereas I have with all the other 3. I haven't watched enough Dahlin yet but I think his upside will surpass Heiskanen's eventually. Out of the 4 I think Makar and Hughes are the best offensively. Statistics say I'm supposed to choose Makar over Hughes but Quinn has done some stuff I've never seen Cale do yet...and I've watched a lot more of Cale. Not saying he's incapable of it, just haven't seen it yet.

Sorry for the long explanation, I just wanted you to understand how maddening this argument has been in my head recently. There really isn't a good answer right now.

Imagine this argument from my side, I obviously want to choose Dahlin, we take him as out franchise Dman who's supposed to be the best of his generation and then the in a year in a bit 3 more dmen almost as good or better than him appear. In a sense. Now we have probably the best offensively, I say Dahlin is the best offensively and has the potential to be the best all around, but he isn't close to what Heiskanen is right now for calm ness and poise in the Ice which scares me, although he is a year or 2 older. I think right now Heiskanen is best potential wise it's Dahlin then Heiskanen m

Would also take Guentzel before Laine, Malkin, or Tkachuk, injury concerns with Malkin and I think Guentzel is more of a lock for 40 goals than Tkachuk or Laine at this point. Tkachuk doesn't get taken that high unless your league gives points for penalty minutes

I might be one of the biggest Sid fans in the world, but there's no way I'm drafting someone over 30 for a fantasy draft

If its in terms of building a long term great team, I'd include at least one of Makar, Hughes, or Heiskanen

McAvoy is one if the best defenseman in the league and one of the most underrated. He is a great all round player. Also has a cheap cap hit for 2 years. Those other 4 are great but I would take McAvoy

I'd take the other ones because they have better potential, and they have at least a year of ELC left.

He's not as good as any of these guys. Sorry, he's just not. He may have a higher ceiling and could be better in the future, but he's not. Especially not Heiskanen. He's not too far behind Hughes and Makar, but he is behind for now. Similar offensive production, sure, but has not been as strong defensively as the others yet.

His team sways that, also Hughes and Makar and Dahlin are behind Heiskanen because they all still get sheltered, 0PK mostly 0zone starts

Imo he's the best D on the league and his contract is very reasonable for the next 5 years.

There's virtually no chance for any team to win a cup without a close to franchise level D.

He's 29 and you get him till he's 34. I'd take a 21 year old Dman before him.

Perhaps it's a wise decision. But in a potential fantasy draft there's two ways of creating a team - either by creating an immediate contender or building a future dynasty via younger pieces.

There's only a handful D-man currently of franchise level. Imo Hedman is the best there is, and he's likely staying there for years to come.

Choosing Heiskanen, Makar, Hughes or Dahlin is not a bad decision in the slightest. But they won't perform on the franchise level still in 2-3 years, I believe.

I'd still take Werenski/McAcoy/Provorov/Jones before him as well.
