He is signed long term and is a better defenceman than Krug who everybody is crazy about.

I would stay away from OEL. He's already showing a drop-off in his game and is only just starting a very long, expensive extension.

the price for OEL is going to be substantially more than that. I dont think montreal wants any part of that contract and this deal doesnt help them address any of there issues. Romanov will be on the roster next year Kulak looked much better in the playoffs, they have options internally to fill out their d-core. They need to be using their cap space on a big, scoring winger.

Habs would be better off extending Petry for 3 or 4 years max at ~ $6M per. And hope Romanov can play top 4 minutes ASAP (maybe only in his 2nd season)

His time in Arizona may be done because he signed a huge extension and immediately made Arizona regret it. A change of scenery may help, but MTL may not be the place for him

I don’t know what you mean as "Drop-off" but of course a puck moving defenseman is not going to thrive on a ultra conservative team with a 45 points Smaltz as it top scorer...OEL is not the problem here IMO.

The drop-off is less about points and more about total contribution, including possession and shot suppression. A few years back he looked really promising in these areas but has instead fallen off in the last couple as the team around him has actually improved a bit. I just wouldn't take a risk on that contract given what he provides.
