I was thinking Tatar is an impending UFA whereas Zadorov is younger and an RFA

Really? JG has another poor playoffs and it looks like the writing is on the wall. Domi also had an underwhelming playoffs but has more grit and less talent than JG. Mete could slot into too 6 when Brodie and TH leave in FA. And two good second rounders add to the haul.

Tatar is a 60 point winger, Zadorov is a bottom pairing dman. One is not like the other

Why would you trade Tatar for a bottom pairing defenseman and man that CGY trade... I bet it doesnt even work on NHL20 rookie season mode

Agreed. But with a flat cap there won’t be many contending teams that can take on his cap hit. Plus his poor playoffs likely impacted his value IMO

I dont see MTL trading for Gaudreau, because he's had an underwhelming szn and playoffs.

Tatar >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Zadorov
People will pay to take Allen. to get him MTL would have to do Lindgren+4th.

Because they have Binnington and have major cap problems and can’t afford to sign AP and Dunn ($10-$12 mill total). And few teams need a starting G, and less need a $4 mill backup

Tatar had a fine playoffs and MTL can retain 50% and bring his cap hit to under 3 million, plenty of playoff teams next year will give up a 1st for him

That doesn't mean he is a cap dump. They could:

1) Get better value for him
2) Trade another player
3) Buy him out
4) Burry him

7 in 9 games isn’t poor. Flames are probably gonna keep him, it’s just mad fans and Eric Francis ( who is an idiot) say he’s leaving

You can’t bury guys anymore, and why would they do that anyway? Buying out doesn’t make sense either. Who else would they trade? What teams would give them anything for him?

He is skilled enough to always get his points. But points does not equal winning in the playoffs.

There is no room on the blue line for Zadorov as Romanov will play on the left no matter what and likely bumps everyone down a spot at some point during the year. So acquiring Zadorov to play maybe 20 games in the top 4 is not a smart move and Tatar can bring back more than just Zadorov anyway.

Of course you can burry contracts. Look it up...

Instead of answering questions you should ask yourself, Im going to tell you the future: Pietrangelo will hit the UFA market and sign elsewhere and blues will have plenty of capspace to renew other contracts.

You can bury contracts but you don't save the full cap amount. Look it up:

What is a Buried Contract?
Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.
The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000

So burying Allen only saves about $1 million. You really do think AP leaves via free agency? It wouldn't be in line with with him and the Blues have indicated all along...but we know that can easily change so maybe. Agreed though, if he leaves STL will be ok with the cap. Still need to shed some money though.
