Blues wouldn't trade Dunn. You have to OS him.

Why should the Rangers trade more than a first and a third for Dunn when they could just offer sheet him for that instead with the Blues being unlikely to match it?

I've seen the idea of trading Trouba to the Ducks a few times and I just don't get it. Why would the Ducks want him on that contract when they are probably heading into a rebuild? Also, do people really think the Rangers are going to trade Trouba just a year into his contract after giving up a first and Pionk for the right to sign him?

Works out in both teams' favor.
-Blues is able to get more compensation than they would if there was an offersheet (that they couldn't match anyway)
-Rangers get a bit lower AAV for longer term.

If you rather offer that contract in the form of an offersheet, that's fine too. I think it might be just under the threshold.

I like this a lot. If those trades went through, I’d be happy and perfectly fine with giving up the pieces to acquire those guys.

Sure we can explain it to you.

Trouba to the Ducks makes a ton of sense because of
a) Trouba is team controlled through their rebuild unlike Lindholm/Manson, both of whom will probably not be on Anaheim within 2 years.
b) Anaheim is able to protect Trouba for the expansion draft without changing really any of their game plan
c) There are zero RHD prospects in Anaheim with a probable chance to become a top 4 Dman
d) With them clearing house of anyone not signed long term over the next year they should have sufficient cap space.

In terms of the Rangers willingness to trade him, it's already been reported on that the Rangers are exploring that scenario with the emergence of Deangelo and Fox. The Rangers have a storied history of trading players right before their NTC/NMC kicks in (Stepan and Brassard to just name a recent few), and it has not affected their standing in the UFA market AT ALL.

I know we typically don’t see eye to eye on things, but all of the moves are very reasonable to me and definitely help the team without shafting the other teams. Good job!

No worries, I appreciate it. I'm pretty analytically focused so my notion of "value" tends to be a little bit more black and white than most others on here. These trades kinda constitute close to the max I'd consider paying for any of these targets.

me too! I don't really see the Rangers doing an offer sheet. It's been over 20 years since they tried one. JD has a strong relationship with Armstrong, I think something like this could get done.

Gonna sound crazy and show my bias(my like for max jones as Is see he's really undervalued) your not getting that 1st maybe our second. ANA-NYR probably not the best trade partners rn. Not to far off on that trade tho.

I mean respectfully it's tough for an NHL GM to ignore a massive hole on the right side of the defense. Manson is almost certainly a rebuild casualty and after him the next best performing RHD this season was...Gudbranson, and he was a replacement level player. At the moment, the best RHD in the system is Hunter Drew and he spent some time in the ECHL this season. If Manson is gone this season, the Ducks are a lock not only for the worst NHL RHD crop, but also worst RHD prospect pool.

With that set as the stage, obviously someone like Trouba, a consistent 2way RHD with size and a ton of team control becomes a consideration. He's an obvious target since there aren't many alternatives for someone who can step in as #1RHD on day 1, is decently young, and has a ton of term.

In terms of the compensation, I don't think the Boston 1st vs. Anaheim 2nd is too much of a controversy, the picks are about 5-10 slots difference depending on where Boston finishes this playoff run.
I don't think swapping out Jones is a dealbreaker either. I chose him because of his profile (Rangers tend to like big /fast wingers (see their acquisition of Gauthier and Lemieux) and because he seemed like a good change of scenery candidate. Anaheim tends to play a slower, controlled, possession heavy offense. Jones tends to want to play a bit more fast and sloppy, which is really what the Rangers are all about.

But he can certainly be swapped out. Whichever of Thrun, BOG, Terry, or Lundestrom you like the least also works.

No matter which way you put it we are a bad team next year and I'm not in a rush to fill that hole at RHD especially with that expensive contract(y'all stuck with it). I know Gudbranson is a name to trash however, he actually was alright in that top paring and isn't on that bad of a contract so I really don't panic about it.

I appreciate the way you were able to classify our game last year (which also stems from former years of somewhat success) but we were no more than just a mixed bag of nothing unfortunately.

Nonetheless, I also agree with Jones maybe needing a change of scenery but I want at least another 80 games to figure out if thats the case and I say that for all the young guys. They all are at low value I don't mind taking that gamble if I were GMBM. One gamble I wouldn't take is fully taking on Trouba's contract.

For the most part, this is really solid. I don't see anyone taking on Trouba so that most likely won't happen, and Lemieux probably gets a 3rd and another low value piece. Besides that, this looks pretty great.
