Description
Just throwing some **** at the wall.

You get the idea, get firsts and then throw them all at NYR.

These trades are not exact value, just the general concept. How many 1sts would NYR want

Id be willing to put money that 3 of those firsts are going to be in the 20s and the only one that could be high is NSH and even then its not guaranteed

Most of them are mid to late 1st round picks. For a generational talent I don't think that's going to cut it...even if it's 5 of them.

They aren't nothing...but there's a bunch of pretty big unknowns when it comes to this.

-Vancouver, Nashville and the Islanders are all likely to be playoff teams next year.
-The 2021 draft didn't project to be anywhere near this years, and now there's a good chance that a lot of prospects don't get to start playing until at least December 1st. That's a lot of development time to miss out on, and potentially more if Covid doesn't slow down.

Its incredible how on Capfriendly 1st round picks are both impossible to pry away from teams and yet worthless

Last year people were betting to see TOR/PIT and SJ all in the 20s, look where they are. League parity is great, and all it takes is one ****up and the trade is huge.

Even then, ~20s are great players, or they are chips to acquire great players. NYR could dump any and all bad contracts, and still have 4 1sts in the next 2 years.

Lafreniere is not McDavid/Matthews/Crosby/MacKinnon etc. He is a very very good LW. The folks at dobberprospects have him at 7th in the last 16 1OAs

Mid to late firsts are still very good picks. They are terrific trade tools to dump bad cap or bring in certain talent.

5OA + Logan Brown + Four firsts. That is a six 1st value, + cap dump.

That is a very fair note, I would be willing to package 33OA + another 2nd or 3rd to give NYR ~22OA this year

I see what your saying but the picks that are selected ar different Toronto cam won't of no where to miss the playoffs, but Pittsburghs playoff window is beginning to close and San Jose was screwed with that Goaltending.

But here's the thing the New York Islanders aren't going to miss the playoffs given the way that Trotz coaches them, Vancouver is an up and coming team and the only way I could see them missing the playoffs next year is if Markstrom doesn't resign. Nashville is stuck in mediocrity if you ask me because they have big contracts that can't be moved and thats the thing too good to be a lottery pick, but not good enough to win the cup. Thats just my opinion on them.

While yes picks in the 20s are good they normally take 2-4 years to be ready

Never said he was them. Nor will he ever be them. Centers are valued much higher in that regard. However, I'm very confident he will be a generational talent at wing. Maybe a Patrick Kane type player? And it's hard to pass up on players that are such a sure thing like he is. I believe his talent floor is 60 pts and ceiling is at or above 100 pts. Like I said, never the value of the guys above but still can't dismiss his generational type talent.

As for the picks, the picks this year I have no problem with (5OA and a late first are good) but the following years picks just seem too low in value. I know you can still get amazing talents late in the 1st round but the chances get slimmer and slimmer the farther down that list you go. Now say you have a crystal ball and you know who will pan out and who won't, then I take that trade. But say you trade Laffy for a bunch of players (minus 5OA) who never live up to their potential...then you wasted your pick.

Okay, we were operating under a different definition of "generational" thats fair

I think thats a fair opinion on the teams. I think NYR would use 3 of their 6 firsts to acquire talent and 3 of the draft/develop.

This trade is predicated on the idea that the efficiency gained in this trade to shore up all other positions and trim bad contracts would offset the difference in between 1OA and 5OA.

This isnt the NBA, one player doesnt win cup. NYR has top end talent, this kind of trade would allow them to ensure they have the best all around team in the league.
