Marner with his contract just isn’t a super desirable asset. First rounder. That’s it.

Why trade for another winger?? They need centers and in particular a 1st line center or someone equal to Zibanejad.

I highly disagree. His ppg production is on par with where Kane was at this age

And it’s the middle of a pandemic with a flat cap on the horizon for a few year. He’s massively overpaid, and has been kinda, “meh,” in the playoffs. Not ideal circumstances to trade him.

yah, hes worth more than that, its just his contract reduces his value as it makes less teams have the cap space 2 get him

This is actually crazy.

Not to forget that teams are receiving 20m each due to Seattle entering the league. This is not much, but it should help a bit. And some teams just perform bad finacially, which is holding back the whole league

Don’t really see what you’re getting at here. He’s the highest paid RW in the league. He hasn’t played like it. There’s an arrangement for deferred payments, but it doesn’t apply to signing bonuses. He’s got Like 45 million owed in signing bonuses.

Way too many question marks to give up multiple firsts.

Outside of the Marner thing...

Losing DeAngelo for Bennet and TVR is a serious downgrade. If... IF Henrik was to retire, and an even bigger IF the Marner trade were to happen... there's plenty money on the table to sign DeAngelo. I'm just not sure why you chose not to do that.

out of his signing bonus, 15 were payed last offesason and 14 will be payed this offseason. Then it is not that much anymore. And due to the new cba there will be no lockout

I’m aware there’s a new CBA. I’m aware there’s not going to be a lockout. I am not aware as to how that matters.

he’s not an appealing contract. Teams aren’t knocking down the door to try to pry away Mitch marner. They’re kicking tires to see if news a good time to get a diminished asset on the cheap.

Because 5 plus million a year is a ton to pay a 3rd D. They still have to pay Fox too

Couldn't agree more. If Toronto trades Marner, I think Leafs fans will be a little surprised it's not cost controlled youth and 50 first round picks.

Marner is as good at this point in his career as Kane was at this point.

I'm not a fan of the Marner trade and I like DeAngelo being on the Rangers, but if offered a 1st and a 3rd round pick in a very deep draft (as well as Bennett) in exchange for DeAngelo - I'd love for the Rangers to make that trade. Lemieux and Bennett on the same line together would be intense.

Kane actually won a playoff series and proved his production isn't predicated off his line mates.
