When there is a Minor Salary listed for a players contract does it apply when a player starts off in the NHL and then gets assigned to the AHL, or does it apply if a player starts off in the AHL and then gets assigned to the NHL and then get recalled back to the AHL?

A player is paid their minors salary when they are on an AHL or ECHL roster. They are paid their NHL salary when they are on an NHL roster. The players get paid by each day they are on the rosters.

For example if a player makes a salary of $700,000 in the NHL, and $100,000 in the minors, and spent exactly half of the days of the season in the NHL, and half in the AHL, they would make a total of $400,000 through the whole season. ($50,000 in the minors, $350,000 in the NHL)

the 2018/19 regular season for the NHL was 186 days long.

the 2018/19 regular season for the AHL was 193 days long.

if a player making $650,000 as the base salary in that season in the NHL is on an active NHL roster for 50 days would it be prorated to
- 50/186*$650,000
- = $174,731

if the same player making $70,000 as the minor salary is on an active AHL roster for 140 days would it be prorated to
- 140/193*$70,000
- = $50,777

So how does the formula account for if the active AHL player makes the playoffs is that considered an extension of the season?

If there's a performance bonus attached to the players contract can that Performance Bonus requirement be achieved in either league or does it have to be met in the NHL?

I don’t know about AHL performance bonuses, but I’d assume that if they do exist, they would be separate from performance bonuses a player could earn at the NHL level.

As for the playoffs, I’m pretty sure that the last time the players get a paycheque is after the regular season is done. So they wouldn’t make any money for playing in the playoffs.
