Not sure why ARI would do this. If it were say, Baertschi for Stepan, it would make more sense because they’re trying to free up cap space. But Demers is their only Right handed defenseman, and they already have plethora of bottom 6 forwards.

They have Lyubushkin and Soderstrom who are both ready for full NHL minutes next year, and they are both RHD

Fair point, but Tocchet has never trusted Lybushkin enough to give him consistent minutes, and it’s a bit ambitious to expect a 19 year old to jump in and immediately play decent minutes. Not impossible, but it’s better to not expect it to happen 100%. Anyway, my point is that we’d rather give up Goligoski/Hjalmarsson over Demers imo.
