#1- JJ is bad, but pens will still get a better return for Murray than that even if they package JJ with him.
#2- NYR won’t pay a first to move lundqvist and if they did, pens aren’t the team to buy him out.

Nope, Murray needs a new contract and hasn't played very well. Wings might be interested if he came cheap, say a mid round pick, but certainly not to take on Johnson

It’s a 4th lol, I don’t think they’re going to miss it if they’re getting RFA goalie Matt Murray who is 26 and can be locked up for cheap lol.

I mean Toronto tossed the canes a first for Marleau and got less Back sooo. And if you look at my setup, Pitty can buy out Lundqvist tbh. 5.5 this year and the roster is still solid, 3M next year and there will be a few contract by there are also a few players that can be traded (Letang is one of them if you catch my drift).

This whole post is making sure the penguins can stay semi competitive while also being able to grab pieces for the future (which they kinda did here)

they paid the 1st because so they could remain competitive while nyr can wait out a year no problem and not lose a good asset for 1 year "Help" that they can clearly last themselves.

It’s funny because you act like johnson is such a bad contract when in reality he makes 3.25 for 3 more years and would still probably play for your team.. that’s how bad your D is. Yzerman would jump all over this. Too bad pit won’t offer it for you guys.

There paying 8.8M for a third string goalie lol. All that could be put into something else (Buchanevich? Strome? Fast? DeAngelo?)

Yeah it’s not really the price of him, it’s the fact that he’s just really bad and there’s 3 years to it. I mean teams like Detroit or Ottawa could totally take on that contract no issue and Murray is a great add on for them as rebuilding clubs)

I mean johnson would still eat minutes for those teams. And it’s not like they’ll be close to the cap during the duration of Johnson’s whole contract. I still think Pens are gonna use McCann as the way to get rid of Johnson, similar to Zaitsev and Brown

Fair, but at the same time, McCann is young and is a good piece for them moving forward, where as Murray they basically want out.

I mean, at the end of the day, none of us are GM’s, and there hasn’t been any concrete rumours of anything. Who knows what’s gonna happen with GMJR.

I say it every night. I have to stop reading these so late. I thought it said a 2nd rd pick for Bjugstad. That's a round for each point this year...

Haha no, I tacked on the 4th and 7th with Bjugstad because the pens really need higher picks, so I felt adding those two picks could help equalize a bit more (remember, Buffalo also needs C so it’s a plus for them)

They need a center that played more than 13 games, isn't coming off back surgery and isn't making 4+ mil for one year.I

If they need higher picks trade better playets....

It’s just to tide them over until Cozens is ready (I wouldn’t want to thrust him into the top 6 so fast else he becomes the next mittlestadt). The issue with that is that trading better players either screws up the core with the older guys and they don’t have the young guys to replace them effectively and the young guys are part of the future. Bjugstad is legit the only person they can trade without it hurting them

I'll counter with Bjugstad is the one player they can trade for that will hurt them. He does nothing to help in 20-21 and beyond and, in this highly unlikely case, cost them a 2nd rd pick..

Not in that regard. My point was you can move Bjugstad and you won’t miss him. You live McCann or Rust, you would miss them

You simply missed his point. Buffalo wants nothing to do with him or that contract, and they’ll never pay a second round pick to do it. You can’t attach 2 mid to late round picks to a bad overpaid player that is never healthy and suddenly make it worth a second round pick.

Henrik Lundqvist has proven that he’s still a serviceable goalie, and there’s a good chance we keep him this offseason and trade Georgiev instead. Hank would start close to 25 games and Igor would get the rest of them. In that role, Hank would be fine, and we would reassess his position with us in the offseason. One year of his contract isn’t going to warrant giving away a first rounder.

But now you’re in a situation where you won’t have a proper backup for Shesterkin after with Georgiev gone. Wall and Huska wouldn’t be ready yet.

Well personally I bellieve that Hank will play for this year and next, so that gives Tyler Wall two years to be ready for the backup role, and I think he will be ready by then. And if he isn't ready, it won't be too hard to get a backup via trade or free agency, or just give Hank one more year if he's still capable, which I think he will be.

King proved himself this year in playoffs he was still on his game and good enough to be a 40-50 game starter goalie. Im sure if NYR retains 50% for 1 year they can move him or if he retires they will have 3.5m open up. NYR are in no need of moving contracts this year and surely wont give up a top prospect for 1 year they will just eat the cap hit and be done with it. They assured they would be fine with moving skej when they did so they wouldnt run into problems and in hindsight it was an amazing move.
