Quoting: Copenhagen
Nobody wants to play in Winnipeg either.
Stings but is true most of the time, Winnipeg is more a team that will only have players commit to their team after playing there for a few years (ie all our long term contracts).
Russel, while he is owed less, was awful in the play in imo. Any team that has seen that should probably look away. The cap is also flat so most teams can’t afford to keep him without incentive. I can only think of a handful of teams that would be willing to take him without incentive and I can bet they will be on his no trade list. I just don’t see any team taking him without incentive after all that.
We are going to see that with many players this year. Teams will have difficulty moving their higher cap hits because the cap is flat. If you look at the aforementioned jets’ perreault. Normally he isn’t a cap dump either as he is a solid veteran piece that can play anywhere in the lineup and still produce. However, because of the flat cap, he basically is a cap dump and is treated by most jets fans as such. I understand the anger of losing players for less then they are worth but that’s what it takes to contend, ask Chicago.
So that said, I do believe there is a chance teams might be willing to give up assets for Russel, but with the free against market as it is right now, I doubt it
