Cirelli is the wrong guy for the Devils to acquire. We've already got 1C and 2C locked up with Hischier and Hughes. You saw Hughes play some wing last season to remove his defensive responsibilities so he could work on other aspects of his game (Nas's words, not mine) - so he's out of place at 2RW. This makes Cirelli a $5.5M 3C which is a mistake. Zacha is a perfectly capable 3C at half the value.

Also your defense may actually be worse than last seasons. Maatta is not a 1LD, Dermott is questionable at 2LD, Subban is not 1RD, Butcher is a defensive liability playing on the wrong side, and Carrick is a 7th. I think you're better off targetting Cernak (RD) instead of Cirelli to try to help build the defense.

The devils need Sevo more than they need nylander. Equally Cirellii, would be a big improvement at 3C over Zacha, but I would much prefer a package for sergachev. I am totally fine with zacha playing 3C and getting 35-45 points if it means this defense isnt a tire fire for the rest of the decade.

I don't think NJ is trading one 1st, let alone two. For where the team is, they would be better off trying to bring a scoring forward in for just money even if it's harder because players don't want to come here.

I could see the Devils trading a 1st +++ for a young proven player in a spot of need. Like Sergachev in TB, trade a 1st + prospect + player to get. Devils would improve on defense, TB gets cap space,
