Bear is worth more than that. Also Bear is not a 3rd pair guy, he was the best defense in Edmonton this year and is first pair caliber.

3rd pair of Bear and Kylington is very talented and young and gives the pens a future top 4 of Marino, Pettersson, Bear and Kylington, pretty solid.
The third line of Zucker, Bonino and Horny is pretty damn good, and Puljujarvi is the top six RW for Sid or you can try Dadanov, Zucker, Horny or Rust, whoever fits best.

We would end up losing Bear or Petterson to expansion draft. Bear is too good to be on our bottom pairing. All we need is a guy like TVR to play there and either sign a LHD or maybe POJ is ready.

A former second rounder with top six upside (Hallander) is more than fair compensation to take JJ's contract. A fourth in return is basically nothing, a 1/5 chance of becoming an NHL player from a team with 9 picks in the first three rounds of that year.

No its not. JJ carries >3M for 3 years. That is nearly 10M in cap over a very inconvenient amount of time.

6M typically costs a 1st. Hallander is not enough to compensate for nearly 10M

Hallander and a late pick and you get nothing back.

If you want a 4th coming back, youre giving OTT a 3rd. OTT would do it for a pick upgrade, but theyre not paying PIT in any way for JJ
