I'm not a fan of that Dunn trade. Howden wouldn't crack our lineup and without knowing where that first round pick is gonna land, it's a pretty big gamble. Personally I'd rather keep Dunn and cut the cap elsewhere.

Realistically, you'd have to cut about 15 mil to afford Pietrangelo and a Dunn offersheet. TBH, I don't think you can do it. No one is taking someone like Bozak without some retention.

If Sakic had been comfortable moving Jost + 1st for Kreider that trade would have happened at the deadline or last offseason.

Jost + 2nd + Beaucage is a deal that would appease both sides. Fwiw @Stanley_Cup_To_Manhattan likes that trade idea.

Pietrangelo may just be a lost cause. I'd hate to lose Dunn and someone like Schwartz/Parayko/Thomas/Binnington just to pay big money for the back nine of his career - if they're the casualties then extending Petro is an easy pass from me. If Steen retires and there is a way to move Bozak and Allen, then that's a different story.

Whenever I see Howden thrown in a deal with a contender, it's like a bat signal alerting me that they know the offer is whack.

Yeah I mean I'd think Dunn is a better investment. But I'm not sure Armstrong sees it that way, especially given Dunn's sheltered deployment. I'd think he sees the deals that Josi and Doughty just got and believes it's probably a steal if he can sign Petro for around 9-10 mil. To afford that AND a Dunn offer sheet, you'd have to clear Bozak, Steen, AND Allen without taking on any cap. I just don't see that as a probable outcome.

If Armstrong thought he needed Petro he probably would've been signed already. Really, I have no idea what is about to happen; I just hope we don't lose a Dunn trade and then let Schwartz walk all because GMDA had to have Justin FauLk. What a mess.

yeah the Faulk trade for you guys, similar to the Trouba trade for us, was a mistake.
