I think @RazWild was being sarcastic. The point is that we don't need or want Ryan Poehling. This trade does nothing for us but weaken us. And plus, why add the 3rd round pick? I'm just curious.

Based on the idea that Poehlings value is similar to a late first and that a late first might be a bit much to move up only 7 spots

Although, to be fair, we'd probably want a top six center or prospect back if we are trading out of the top ten.

Which I get, but when you're moving up in the draft, you overpay. So even though the value might be there in reality, the team holding the 9th OA wouldn't care about what's fair. Regardless, on a team that needs depth forwards, this trade makes sense. But were loaded with depth forwards and minimal skilled forwards. So the trade wouldn't make sense for us. Maybe a LD prospect would work? But the only way I can see us trading back is if we're sold on Askarov and we don't expect anyone to take him before 16.

I actually disagree with this to an extent. In the case of 9th to say 25th, a 2C would probably be required. But from 9th to 16th? I doubt that we'll be able to get much more than 16 + B prospect/Depth Player

Granted, it's not like it's a top 5 or top 3 pick even where you can demand a massive overpay, but it's still a top ten draft pick and they're asking to move up 7 spots. Although at least he bothered giving us the 16th ova in return this time, so there's that.

Any prospect we could draft at 9th is likely to be just as good as if not better than Poehling. I was joking about Suzuki, but I don't think asking for Kotkaniemi and their 16th ova as payment is out of line or asking too much.

We have the 9th ova, they do not, if they want to move up we hold all the cards and get to set the asking price.

The mere fact of asking for KK to move down 7 spots is pure madness and completely out of line. Cmon man.

So is asking a team that desperately needs a top ten pick just as badly as yours does. I mean, I get it, we're in the same position here, but the simple fact is that the Wild are better served using our pick to get someone who is likely both going to be better and helps our franchise more than what your offering.

Unless you blow us away with an offer we can't refuse, and actually give us something we need, we have absolutely no need or desire to give up our pick.

We simply are not the team you should be targeting otherwise. Winnipeg is in all honesty a better trade target for Montreal if you want to move up.

MTL wouldn’t trade Kotkaniemi vs 9th OA and MIN would jump on that. Anyway Lundell is gonna be there at 9, if not, you’ll pick the Elite prospect who dropped ( Holtz Raymond )
