I can see the contract, but the 1st is a higher pick then where the Wings got Mantha. Add in a top prospect and vet D-man. Didn’t think it was too far off. I’d say it really depends on Yzerman’s planning horizon.

Saying the pick is higher where Mantha was picked is silly. Would you say the same for a 2nd pick is better than where Tampa took Point.

Yzerman is rebuilding and trading a 25 year old who if he can stay healthy will be a very good power forward. Rebuilding teams trading younger players for futures is a bad recipe and only continues a rebuild.

Also saying Johnson is a vet d man is a stretch as he looked lost against Montreal.
