Three Number Twos

Description
I am in the minority here, but I don’t think the Wild NEED a #1 center...or am at least convinced the will not get one anytime soon... I do, however, firmly believe they can be legitimately competitive with three #2 centers and also consider this more realistic.

Adding Dumba to the Nucks blueline would be huge! Having a one-two punch of Hughes and Dumba would allow them all kinds of options and match up nightmares.
I need help with value here, but this is where I start with my offer. Im very interested in reading opinions from both team’s fanbases as well as the many other astute NHL nerds that lurk around these parts!

I highly doubt VAN is trading Horvat. He's their captain and is signed to a really good contract. They could also just re-sign Tanev to play with Hughes

I wonder if a Pavelski - Zuccarello swap could be worked out... I'd rather take the larger cap hit for shorter term

No way there's retention for the Zuccarello deal. He's got 4 more years left on his deal...that's just bad management.
The Vancouver deal is decent as far as value goes, but I highly doubt the canucks trade away Horvat with Brandon SUtter and Jay Beagle as their next two C's up.

I agree with your thinking about the three #2 centers. That being said I really don't see Van trading their "C" away.

When I think of three number twos, I think of Nashville and how they haven’t gotten far in the playoffs sincerely their final against the Pens. Maybe not the best strategy?

If it makes Zucc go away I can see MN retaining for the duration of the deal. They are used to having dead cap with all the buyouts they've used over the years.

Instead of signing Braun for 3rd pair I’d give benning and a 3rd for staal? Benning will cost that but is younger and is fantastic as a third pair d.

Do you think he's read for 2C responsibilities? He's around 40% so far in his young career and didn't even take 500 faceoff's last season. Maybe they throw him in there, but I don't think he's playing full time top 6 C minutes for a little bit

If Im the jets I do it or at least look for a similar deal (Stastny). Staal's been really good for the wild. He's produced and has been healthy.

If the Jets are spending assets, they need to go after a looking term solution. They can't afford to keep throwing away youth for a short term fix.

I agree, but I think there is a legit chance Stastny could re-sign and for a much cheaper deal. He was close to re-signing before he signed with Vegas. Maybe something in the 4 mill AAV range for 2-3 years. Maybe Staal is the same? I don't really know

They're both just too old and declining. We need someone who is the same relative age as our core, that can grow with our young guys. Not a player that needs to be replaced in a season or two.

or you can look at them as stop gaps until the next C is developed? I agree that the jets need a 2C and I would love to see them make a move to acquire a guy with relative age, but those guys just don't get dealt. Lots of talk on here about Domi or Dylan Strome. I would trade the #10 pick straight up for one of those guys...maybe even add a sprinkle of Niku or Stanley to make it happen.
If Im the jets I look at making a deal this offseaon to solidify the 2C.

Neither of the two guys you mentioned are worth a high first round pick, let alone #10. I wouldn't mind picking up an older vet, but only as a last resort and definitely not for a 2nd as proposed here. A mid-grade prospect or pick, maybe if nothing else is available. It's just not worth wasting the cap space on.
