I don't think STL could do that with Steen, but that's pretty minor. If this is how the offseason went I'd be a very happy fan - I'd take less for Bozak + Allen (less but not negative) if it meant Petro stays.

Flat cap = MTL will NOT give STL 2 picks to take on Allen's salary...

Correct (not that the flat cap has much of anything to do with it).

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Those are two midpicks and we already have plenty of them. Allen, on the other hand, has been a top three backup goalie this season and he's not a cap dump.

They could, as they still have to pay for his buyout + his new contract

Flat Cap has EVERYTHING to do with this, IMO. Why would STL trade Allen if, lets say, the cap was to go up $5M? They probably could've managed to keep him AND resign Pietrangelo...
But with a flat cap, one of the 2 goalies has to go to make room...

Of course they have to trade him, but there are a lot of teams that would want him and he goes to the highest bidder. Flat cap or not, we need a backup goalie and we have cap space to get a quality one. I'd rather trade for him than sign a guy like Dell in FA

Sorry for being unclear, I meant that he would not be worth two thirds regardless of the flat cap.

Agreed, we need a backup. Agreed, Allen is a nice fit. Agreed, they're will be a couple of dance partners for STL to make a deal. My point is: why trade away assets to get Allen, when other options are available on the cheap side, whit little to no drop in quality?

Yes, Allen is a good goalie. But STL is a great team! Put him in nets for Florida and let's see what his numbers will be...

I think if the cap went up $5M, the Blues could've traded Allen for a 2nd round pick and a good prospect. But now, I think his value his down quite a bit because his salary becomes an issue AND the Blues are dealing from a position of weakness, since they << have to >> deal a goalie... But I still think he's a very good goalie!

Hiiiiiighly doubt that would ever fly with him down to a one-season deal (except maybe Buffalo, because... Buffalo).

Allen wasn't bad this year but I don't see how St. Louis would want Lindgren as their backup

Well if they plan on re-signing Pietrangelo they need a cheap backup (under 1m$) and I'm not sure if Husso is ready to take the role

Toronto just traded their 13th overall pick for 1 year of Marleau cap savings... Obviously its much worse now, but it looked bad at the time it was made also. If teams aren't paying to ditch large cap hits, I am not interested in helping them, let another team.

Thing is, Allen isn't a cap dump so you can't really compare it to the Marleau trade. He's a top three backup goalie. If it's not Montreal then another team will give up assets for him

Then let another team overpay. To St. Louis,, Allen is absolutely a cap dump, hence why he is available in the first place. You don't think the Leafs would have loved to keep Marleau if he didn't cost $6M? He was tight with that entire core. Allen looks like a great back-up goalie on the Stanley Cup Champions, that have a solid deep defensive group. Guess what Montreal doesn't have?

Yeah, well we know for a fact that Lindgren isn't. He's not a worthy AHL back-up, if we're being honest.

You really didn't pay attention to our season, it seems. We gave up a lot of high danger chances over the first month or two and in January. Allen's saves above xG was top 5 in the league IIRC. And he is not just beatng up on schlubs, the guy beat most of the top teams in their own barn.

cool. someone else can overpay for him. Unless the Habs are "all-in" next year, we don't want your $4.350M back-up goalie. And if you are unwilling to give assets for someone to take him, then let your captain walk... Habs aren't/shouldn't have to spend to let your team off the hook.

Funny stuff. As if you're the only shop in town. As if you make all the rules. As if not letting you fleece us means we automatically lose Petro. We're not paying to give you Allen (duh-doy), so go look for another goalie and good luck to you.
