This is just me trying this out to see what it looks like and if I like it or not, and curious about thoughts.
the isles probably (read: absolutely should and almost definitely would) find a way to match this but they're not scheduled to have much space/room to work. The Rangers could push it to the 4 1sts tier but that might be overkill as far as what they'd be willing to give up. At worst the Islanders match it and it hits their wallet a little harder with all of their NTC/NMCs and forces them to trade someone they may have wanted to keep.
If the Islanders match, then you probably have to slide Chytil up to 2C, sign a 3C (Koivu, Spezza, Brass, maybe Eakin/Haula)/trade for Alex Kerfoot, maybe a DeAngelo based trade (sorry Leafs fans I know you're sick of them)? Maybe I'll make another one for the non-offer sheet scenario or something.
Both of the trades are ballparked; just going for close, if you think I'm nowhere near then lmk.
Use Georgiev to help dump Brendan Smith's contract; I don't think the Rangers really would like this, and it might be a little bit of an overpay to do it, but the idea is what matters, I think they're much higher on Georgiev than basically anyone else, but I am of the opinion you probably need to be aggressive to get rid of a contract, especially in the upcoming flat cap era. I'd rather have moved Staal but NMC + harder contract to move. Then I signed Greiss, but I'm not really sure what the right market value would be. My point is to go find a vet backup for ~2-3m just in case, doesn't have to be Greiss. You could also promote Huska or Wall from the AHL if they're ready.
Trade Strome because with Barzal/Zibanejad you have one of the better 1/2 punches in the league now and it frees up cap by not having to re-sign him. I've seen Strome to SJS a bunch of times and some SJS fans seem somewhat open to it, so we'll give it a shot. Might be a little NYR favored value wise but I think 2nd+something for Strome is about where it should be.
DeAngelo goes to arbitration for this year, bridged for 1 year then probably traded next year when Nils Lundkvist comes over.
I'm a big Tarmo Reunanen believer, I think he could make the roster next year, but I also have enough space for Staal to still be here and he'd probably get the nod. Hajek as the 7th/8th D.
Hank retires just because it makes this scenario work a lot easier. Don't read into it being Calgary, it's a retirement, that was just the team I was on at the time. Again, this probably isn't something that would actually happen but just for the sake of this scenario.
Bring back PDG to be either in the AHL or fill out the bottom of the roster/be a healthy scratch most of the time/step in if someone is hurt/playing really poorly. This could also be Fogarty or McKegg or O'Regan or whoever.
Things I don't love: Staal being here is not ideal, but I don't have a good idea to dump him and I don't want to buy him out and have to pay next year, I don't even think he's THAT horrible. Kravtsov being on the 4th line feels kind of bad but I think Gauthier gets the nod over him because of his play this year, and having a skilled 4th line that can skate and score would be pretty cool. And it's probably hard to make the money work as ELCs expire, with Panarin, Kreider, Barzal, and Trouba all locked up. Also this means Zibanejad might have to walk when his contract is up; hopefully at this point Chytil will have stepped up and could play 2C, Barzal would be 1C. And Buch might be expendable now/after his contract expires. We do save a little bit in this year to help ease the blow of potential performance bonuses, of which there seem to be many.
If people have offers for players I didn't trade then I'll hear them, ie Buch/DeAngelo/Kravtsov.
Le salaire annuel moyen (AAV) de l'offre hostile est calculé en divisant la valeur totale du contrat par: 1. La durée totale du contrat, ou 2. Cinq ans
ballparking; iirc the Sens could use a pretty steady young goaltender. We can do this after Smith's signing bonus is paid, so Melnyk can take on a 4.35m cap hit but only pay 2.35m in salary
hank just retires instead of being bought out/cap dumped; don't think this is going to happen but i also don't think that the Rangers will end up offer sheeting barzal so let's just roll with it
Only way Isles hesitate to match any Barzal offer sheet is if it is in the 4 1st round pick compensation category.
I don't doubt this at all honestly; to begin with, there's no guarantee that you get the player when you offer sheet them (as we all obviously saw with Sebastian Aho last summer). And like I said I could definitely see the Rangers pushing the 4 1sts number; idk if they were going to use the 4 1sts, but they were prepared to offer sheet Point last summer if he would have accepted one. I think the main idea here for the Ranger is that to some degree, tendering the offer sheet is a win-win.
Either they get Barzal which would be amazing, or they force the Islanders' hand when they, somewhat like the Rangers and many other teams in this league, have a little bit of a cap crunch. At this number even, assuming the Islanders match, they have to find a way to offload a contract, much like how the Rangers had to offload Smith and Hank in this situation. Ladd has an NTC with an 8 team yes list, so it's not hard for him to force the Isles to keep him, Boychuk has a full NTC until the clauses toll, which someone said was November. The most likely answer is to trade Nick Leddy, which probably isn't ideal.
It's definitely doable and the Isles should and probably would match, like I said in the description, but just tendering the offer puts them in a tight spot, which hypothetically is a good thing for the Rangers.
I was thinking danault for 3C, he can fill in for chytil when he slumps and is french canadian like laf so he can mentor him
I think Danault would work great, the main reason why I think I'd prefer the guys I listed is the UFAs won't require us to give up assets to acquire, whereas Danault we'd need to trade for and if you go with Kerfoot, he is signed for 2 more years than Danault is and having an asset locked up at a nice number for a few years would be really beneficial to a team that has a lot of other contracts expiring. I'll try to look into what MTL fans think Danault would go for and see how I would feel about it.

You might have a difficult time convincing the Habs to let go of Danault considering their lack of depth at centre.

Yeah I just went back a few pages of AGMs from MTL perspective and very very few traded Danault at all, let alone for a price I liked. Maybe you can get away with it if they roll with Domi KK and Suzuki down the middle, but it seems like they really like him and it would be tough to pry him away. Meanwhile I feel like I've seen a lot of Kerfoot packages, which piques my interest a bit more.
