No, they still need his physicality. Top 9 of Panarin, Zibanejad, Lafreniere, Kakko, Kravtsov, Strome, Chytil and Buchnevich is pretty soft, and doesnt always get the job done in the playoffs.

That's too much imo. Kreider's contract looks worse than when it was signed due to the fact that the cap won't rise as expected. He also has NMC conditions that Sakic wouldn't have agreed to if he had signed that contract (particularly the part that has Kreider have a full NTC in 2023 when Mackinnon is up for renewal).

Also consider that the market for Kreider will be much more limited now with a flat cap and his NMC, so if NYR want to move him then Colorado are in a strong position.

That's incorrect. His new contract includes a full NMC starting July 1st, 2020. On July 1st, 2024 it becomes a 15 team trade list.

Meaning that he can veto any trade Rangers want to make until July 1st, 2024. That veto power will mean that the market for him will be extremely short, possibly as short as 1 team if a contender with capspace like Colorado wants him.
