Description
Alright, it’s Monday morning, let’s get right to it and have some fun.

I’m sure this has already been done, but I couldn’t be bothered to go and look for it lol

For hypothetical sakes, say the Leafs win the lottery. What kind of package with that and Nylander do you trade to get a stud on the back end. Or do you keep the cost controlled player, and move Nylander and something else. Just Nylander?

We thinking the old Pesce trade gets done? Or maybe we’re thinking big time for a Seth Jones or something crazy like that. Move Nylander for cap space and go after a Vatanen?? What are your thoughts?

Let me know. Thanks.

Or even crazier thought! Trade Marner who costs 4 million more than Nylander and Nylander provides so much more value.

No one will take Marner for full value because of his cap. Odds are, you'll ship out more cap moving Nylander than the cap you'll have to take back in a Marner deal

You simply dont trade Lafreniere, he will be a 100 point player. Move Nylander or Marner for a defense instead

There are many dumb GMs around the league. You absolutely get full value on Marner..

Big no. You will not. Every GM knows how desperate Toronto are for cap space. GM's are always stingy when it comes to moves like this. Even a dumb GM won't give full value, so moving Nylander makes more sense

IMO, the most valuable asset, if you win 1OA, is that pick, mainly because of the financial uncertainty with a flat cap this year, and most likely the same next year.

Re: Pesce/Jones, I'm just not sure why any of those teams would rush to trade any of them? Pesce is on an outstanding contract, and fits perfectly in the Canes system. Jones is the same, with the caveat being that he's only under contract for 2 more years, then he's a UFA. If they think he's leaving, they could get a kings ransom for him. I just don't see a playoff team moving their best RD's away.

I think you could probably get a year of Hamilton and try to extend him, though the price won't be cheap after the 40 games that he put up this year. (edit: Only if the Canes don't think they can resign him)

okay. Enjoy a lack of playoff runs for the next 3 years. They overplayed their offensive hand and the bluff has been called for 2 years now and will be for the next 3.

In what way was the defence the problem this series?

they were unable to force shots from the outside on rushes.
despite winning in every statistical ES category, they were unable to hold down an inferior offensive team. Allowing a team to score more ES goals than you is on the team defense.

It is the same story for the last 2 years and will be until the create cap space in order to improve their team defense (i.e. forwards who play defense and skilled defenders).

Not the defence that caused those problems. It was more forwards not being in position to back them up. I will admit they need more depth but the defence didn't cost them the series.

It was one thing that can be fixed. But everyone will pile on the defence.

The current answer and most likely answer to any Jones trades- No. we will be keeping Seth Jones.

Nylander and 1st OA would be needed to get just Jones let alone adding Texier and Bjorkstrand, if you want all 3 of them the ask is Matthews and Toronto ain’t doing that. So let’s knock this stupid stuff off. There isn’t a Seth Jones to Toronto trade that would work for both sides, unless Columbus decides to blow it up and trade Jones, Werenski, PLD, but i don’t see that happening.

Oops lol. I was doing that just to see how the cap would fit. Didn’t meant to keep it edited like that haha. Definitely agree, to get Jones it’s gonna cost an ass load, and cbj would be wanting/willing to blow it up.
