If you buy Baertschi out, the $1.6 million savings plus what you have in the bank would be enough to re-sign Stecher (or maybe even Tanev) if you wanted to.

My goal was to improve team defence but also leave lots of cap room for 2021. If they can sign Dillon and DeMelo I’d rather they try to recoup a pick for Stecher’s rights.

Too much for Gaudette. Where did the F depth go? Not a good idea to deplete the depth that much also either or both of Juolevi & Rathbone might make the team so Dillon is not needed nor using cap that is needed for Petey & Hughes. Hoglander will get a shot at making the roster as well.

At forward, only Loui is traded, didn’t re-sign Toffoli, and Ferland is on permanent LTIR. It does give the depth a hit but I think both Hoglander and Podkolzin will be able to earn spots in 2021, maybe this year for Hogs like you said.

There are still plenty of opportunities for the kids at any position to make this team. If Juolevi or Rathbone earns a spot then Fantenberg sits and Benn goes to the minors. If two of the young Dmen earn spots that’s a great problem to have, but I don’t think they should count on it. By signing a good defensive Dman like Dillon it allows the team to let Edler walk after this year, and I think Hughes can likely shift to play the right side if both Juolevi and Rathbone make it the following season.
