He's going to get paid, his plus minus and defensive abilities are hard to find in young defensemen.

This is exactly how I see the off-season playing out (except for that weird VAN cap dump).

No chance Graves makes 5mil (which would be more than McAvoy plus the flat cap next season). Plus/minus is a pretty useless stat to be honest

Do you really think Zadorov is going to be happy eating nachos all season as our 7th or 8th Dman?

Graves hasn't even played 100 NHL games yet, and 18 months ago he was looking down the barrel of a career in the AHL. I'm sure he'll be thrilled to sign a contract guaranteeing him $8.25m with some term on a contending team.

That's not to say that he's not a top 4 Dman, because he's very much played like one this season, but the fact is that he just doesn't have enough NHL experience to lean on in negotiations.

After these moves Avs would have $5.245m in unused capspace so I figure that it would make sense to try to weaponise that capspace a bit.

That said, I could also see Sakic going into the season with $5m+ capspace to keep some flexibility to be able to pounce on trade opportunities if they arise mid-season or at the deadline.

    I don’t see Zadorov as #7?

    Graves-Makar
    Girard-Johnson
    Zadorov-Timmins
    Cole

I get that Zadorov is easier to move and nets better value, but if we are trying to ice the best team, he’s ahead of Cole

Byram can't play in the AHL and has nothing left to do in the WHL so I'd be surprised to see him sent down. Unless of course the NHL season is shortened to like 48 games starting in January and the WHL season starts like 3 months earlier than the NHL season, in which case it makes sense to give Byram the season in the WHL + WJC and then a callup in the playoffs, as he'd only be missing 3 months of NHL regular season.

Whatever the case though I think Zadorov's days are numbered on this team.

He's a decent player who just suffered some untimely freak injuries. Rangers could use some more C depth, and Kamenev would be a low-key cheap addition that could pay off for them.

Anyways, it could be any team sending a 4th.

Gotcha. Hey I had a quick question actually. I'm working on a COL ACGM and I was wondering if COL would move Byram for DeBrincat? What's your stance on that?

Good question. There have actually been some recent AGM's discussing exactly that question. The consensus was that Colorado say no. 1st pairing Dmen are much harder to find than wingers, and Byram is on an ELC for the next 3 years.

I'd be pretty happy to eat nachos for 3.5 mill, but timmins seems ready to make the jump but byram doesnt.

Id rather lose cole who you wont resign anyway and keep big Z to put the fear of the lord into opposing players, and fight guys like lucic, big buff, benn, oleksiak, and all the other heavyweights

The deal the WHL has with the NHL is that players drafted from the WHL can't play in the AHL until they're 20. It's to make sure that the WHL can keep their talent, which is important to them since the WHL runs on gate receipts to a large extent. So Byram can't play in the AHL this year.

    Heres an interesting spin for you. Lets say;
WHL depends on the gate to stay afloat but Canada doesnt allow mass indoor crowd gatherings heading into next season and the WHL opt to "cancel" the season.
Then they give all players exception status to play in the AHL next season

That's certainly possible. And that would work well for us with regards to Byram. It would be pretty bad for a lot of other prospects though obviously.

I think there’s a chance they could cancel the season if they can’t sell tickets and fill seats. US college football teams have been announcing season cancelations all week
