Trading a potential 100 point player for two trash cans? Practice pucks would be more effective than these defensemen's.

Doesn't make sense for Buffalo to trade two RHD, and Montour's style of play is just more of what Toronto has and doesn't improve their weaknesses. Risto is a big, physical D who goes up against the best, is difficult to play against, can break the cycle and clear the front of the net. He is what Toronto needs. I would prefer a D like Jones, or Ekblad but they are unlikely to be available. Advanced stats devotees will lose their minds, but publicly available advanced stats are trash, and teams have much better analytics. Knowing that Dubas has much, much better analytics he also engaged in trade talks about Risto with Buffalo before the trade deadline. If the Leafs ever hope to get Sandin and Liljegren into the lineup and succeeding, or if they ever hope to not get killed by a big, strong cycling team, they need heavier D.

I would trade Marner for Risto, a 1st (doesn't matter to me if it is 2020 or 2021) and a decent prospect.

Marner and Eichel would look great together. At the same time Skinner struggled badly on the second line after Olofsson became the first line LW. Marner feeding him the puck would likely return him to the kind of production they need from him to justify his contract.

Are you serious you’d trade an elite winger for a not very good overpaid defenceman a 1st and a decent prospect.

I would. First of all, I don't agree that Risto is a not very good overpaid defenceman, but I know the advanced stats cult is not worth wasting my time on. Thankfully, NHL GMs know that the analytics available to the advanced stats cult is complete garbage. Second it frees up 5.5M in cap space, also brings in a 1st and decent prospect. I would make that trade without hesitation. I would prefer Marner for Jones or Ekblad, but in either case the Leafs would undoubtedly have to add, instead of being the ones to receive a first and a decent prospect.

I don’t look at advanced stats I just watch buffalo play risto is not some very good defence man he is real bad in his own zone. The thing about him is he hits and puts up points but is not good at defending at all.

I have watched almost every game that Risto has played in the NHL. I disagree with you. Every coach he has had disagrees with you. If its true that Dubas was in trade talks with Buffalo over Risto before the trade deadline then he also disagrees with you.

The Dubas rumour was started online by eklund not a big actual NHL insider and I’m not trusting anyone in the Buffalo org to deem a player good. The fact remains that risto is not good defensively. He makes poor choices all the time can’t defend the rush for his life and the only time he looks good is when he pushes around a forward who’s way smaller than him in front of the net.

The Dubas rumour was not started by Eklund. It was flushed out months before by Lebrun and had been talked about by another insider on a forum before that. Those were all coming from the Toronto side of things.
