Description
What do you think?

I think New Jersey would not be a very good team this season, but could be absolutley loaded for the future as I think Holtz is an elite goal scorer, Höglander can be solid, and Reichel is going under the radar. Then they also have the wingers they got last season

Maybe use the remaining cap space to get another D in.

They don't have any issues with the cap, as there is no one to sign next year except Gusev (Zajac and Baertischi would come off) and the year after, Subban, Schneider, Eriksson would all come off the books creating plenty of cap space.

I think COL only does that deal if they miss out on Hall and Palmieri agrees to an extension

I think the devils would do every deal here. I would prefer to see Palmeiri resigned but I've come around on the idea of trading him if he's adamant about going to a contender at this point in his career. You really think the Avs would go for Hall this off-season?

I don't know, but maybe. I just think that Colorado is very close to winning a Stanley Cup and if they don't do so this year, I think they would push really hard the season after, as Makar and Landeskog will get new contracts after next season. But maybe yes.

I don't think the return is crazy, asJost struggles to make the lineup so far and the first round pick will probably be between 25-30.

However if the rumor of Chayka joining HBS (the duo that owns both the Devils and 76'ers) is true, I could not see them trading for an analytic nightmare like Risto lol

Jost strikes me as a prime change of scenery candidate. He would play in a top 6 role on this roster.

Yeah I mean the only one really is question is Risto IMO but all in all I don't think it is terrible. Maybe add a pick coming from Vancouver since it is two cap dumps instead of one but I think you're in the ball park in terms of value on each of these deals.

dont love that Avs trade, would be fine as a back up plan, maybe Plan C or Plan D.

They have so many options this offseason that wouldnt be one they rush out to do, Value is Finish I think...just its blah of a move. This is similar to Tatar trades, I really do not think Avs have much interest running out getting guys with 1 year left on their contract and will be 30 when they start an extension. Dont think hey want to be paying UFA dollars on guys who contract bulk is mid 30s

With a flat cap and a very thin UFA market, Hall to COL makes sense as COL is a contender with the cap space to land him. COL could use one top 6F piece and Hall is the best one available in UFA

If Jost doesnt make the roster, its moreso because COL is already too deep in the bottom 6F, and not because he isnt a good player.
That being said he played a quality 10mins against STL this week and may bump Nieto out.

I think the trades are fair, just dont know how that defence core will stop anything from going in the net all season. Blackwood would definently be under pressure most games with that group "defending" in front of him

Probably swap out Jacobs with Smith but yeah I agree. Oh well, at least we lose 7-5 as opposed to 4-1

I fail to see how the NJD-BUF trade benefits either side. Risto and Severson play very different game styles. Risto is physical, hard-nosed and eats minutes and Severson is quick, puck moving O-zone specialist. Neither are known for their defensive play. I'd keep Risto 100% of the time over Severson. Damon has yet to crack 40 points and if you like the +/- argument (which I don't) then you can't say Severson is any better than Risto

I think NJD should just avoid that BUF trade, I'd way rather have Severson and a slightly lower pick.

The VAN trade could work if it's modified a bit; maybe Loui and Roussel for Hoglander and a pick? Getting rid of Baertschi really doesn't help VAN and the Devils don't need the cap space for at least a couple years. And I know Canucks brass love Hoglander so it may be a non-starter, but they'll have to give up something of value to get rid of bad contracts.

I don't think Palmieri is the type of forward Colorado needs. We already have two shooters in Kadri and Burakovsky, and a sniper like Palmieri is more of the same.

I also would MUCH rather have Reichel than an aging Palmieri. Reichel has 1st line potential and would be a steal if he goes later than the early 20's. Adding Reichel to the Avs roster in 2022 or 2023 on an ELC just as Mackinnon and Byram need new contracts would be a huge boost.
