Matts 2020-2021 Leafs Roster

Description
Just a quick roster I did. My main goal was to acquire a defensively strong, top 4 RHD to staple to Morgan Rielly, who despite having a plethora of dysmal RHDs paired to him since joining the Leafs has put up ridiculous numbers. I had to sacrifice Kapanen, Johnsson, and Engvall to acquire, Sam Steel, Connor Murphy, and much needed cap space. Given the signing of Barabanov, and the emergence of Nick Robertson as an NHL player, these losses can be mitigated reasonably. Sam Steel replaces another loss, and has potential as a top 6 player to replace a forward lost to the Seattle expansion draft. Mikko Lehtonen is an oddball, yet I'm certain he will enter the NHL lineup after being a top rated European defenseman. I sacrificed Gauthier to upgrade a draft pick, and traded Bracco to LAK to give him a second chance; I felt a 7th round pick was a reasonable return on a lottery ticket player. I would definitely be willing to sweeten the Murphy deal.

Edit: Sweetened the Murphy deal.

Thanks,
Matt

Hawks decline. At this point, Murphy is close to worth Kapanen and still many wouldn't make that trade from the hawks point of view.

Okay, I would be inclined to add some value towards that trade. I think there's room to spare in adding draft pick, and other assets. Perhaps dropping Soderlund from the trade would sweeten the deal enough.

I think Steel is rated highly on the Ducks side, and if Toronto moves on from Kapanen I'd rather go for the RHD.

As a Hawks fan, I dont even want to trade Murphy for Kap. The Hawks don't become a better team by getting worse at their greatest weakness...trading away their best RD. Defense is something they need to get better at. NOT wing.

Welcome to CapFriendly!

Kapanen for Steel is an interesting idea. But I think both teams would be more interested in trading their forward for a RD. Nevertheless, nice vision!

I want to keep Kap atm. He is still young and has tremendous upside. His speed is top 10 in the league (In my opinion), he is dangerous on PK, and if he can fine tune his shot, he can be a 15-25 goal scorer

Close to worth? He's worth Kap all day and the only reason Kap may have perceived better value would be because Kap's age and being a RFA when his contract is up. Kap is a good player, not great, overskates, loses control of the puck, but he's getting better and definitely has upside. Kap was on pace for 15 goals this year, he's a mini version of Saad but not as good.

Well he's a 15 to 20 goal scorer but his issues are better puck control, better shot and more accurate passing. He has great speed, uses his body well in battles, and good on the PK but when he has the puck blazing speed but overskates...needs better control. That hopefully comes as he definitely has upside.

Kapanen trade doesn't make a ton of sense to me. Not enough for Murphy either

The odds of Ottawa getting a BETTER player than Gauthier with a 6th round pick is pretty slim, but they truly have no need for him. He'd only block one of the MANY players in Belleville who could easily take that spot. OTT declines.

I'm on your side, I don't like this deal for the hawks.
