Why not? On the open market he'd get, what, $4, $4.5 AAV for about 4-5 years? Maybe it's just wishful thinking but offering the full 8 may really bring down the AAV. Maybe. If Washington wants to keep him at all. Maybe they just let him walk.

Sounds like Dillon wants to stay, and the Caps want to keep him. However, it appears we're losing a defenseman again come Spring 2021. Dillon or Siegs. If they sign Dillon to a 4+ year deal, do they protect Dillon over Siegs?

Depending on what else the team plans to do... if the cap space is available I like the idea of bringing in Allen as a safety net for Samsonov, A 4th isn't much to pay.

I think the Caps would be totally happy if Siegs was the guy they lost to Seattle. He's nothing special and they've got two LHD prospects with much higher ceilings coming up in Fehervary and Alexeyev.
