This is all based on them winning the lottery for Laf. They get a goal scorer in Robertson, a good 3rd C, and a first. We can changed the 3rd to a first if needed.

That is a huge payment for a prospect that did not play one NHL game even if such prospect looks very good.

IMO Robertson has similar value than Caufield and maybe a better all around player.

So I really think Dallas should not do that.

Lafreniere-Suzuki-Caufield why would we ever consider moving one of those 3 guys ?

Danault Suzuki Kotkaniemi Domi > Faksa so Faksa is far from being needed + Poehling stuck being the others

lol good one, Robertson as good. Robertson is in the same league than Poehling as for prospect A- Caufield is an A+ prospect, we are talking about a guy who could become the next Ovi Matthews Laine for goal scorer

LMAO if you think Robertson is similar in value to Caufield and a better all round player, than keep him lol

JR stats in his last year in the Juniors: 48 goals and 69 assists for 117 in 62 games
JR stats in his first Pro season (this year): 25 goals 22 assists for 47 points in 60 games

I think Caufield is a very strong prospect for sure but to give all that for him is an astronomic overpayment. In the worlds junior championship Caudfield was not even on the first PP unit if I remember correctly and was not given prime ice time. He is a strong prospect but he does not look like Ovi, Laine and Mathews.

He was criminally underutilized at that tournament. Makes no sense to take away a PP specialist from the PP. Coaching is one of the reason why the US were not even in the top three

You can’t compare NCAA stats to OHL stats, not nearly the same league. Tons of super inflated numbers in the OHL.

Take one of these tools as an example.
https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_nhle.php

Scoring 40 points in 40 NCAA games only equates to 5 less “expected” NHL points than a player scoring 85 points in 68 OHL games.

How about the fact that he continued in his progression in the AHL?

I get that Habs fans are enthusiastics with Caufield. I would be also if he was with the Stars. But my point here is not that Caufield is a bad prospect (I think I made that clear) but that trade proposition is an overpayment for him. You do not give that tons of assets for a player that never played a NHL game in his life and did not also signed a pro contract yet.

I try your calculator and acording to this tool McDavid would be generating 68 points in the NHL. This tool also work for AHL players but does not acount for the age of the player which can be a very important variable in predicting futur point production. In conclusion, it's a fun tool with a lot of flaws.

Caufield isn’t even even bad defensively tbh. I watched some games and asked some NCAA fans and by the end of the year he was back checking hard and was doing some nice passes and was doing a lot of work since his tram sucked. Just because he’s a scorer doesn’t mean he’s a one-sided player. I don’t think MT should trade him for this tbh. No reason to do this for MTL. I like Robertson, he’s a great prospect that’s around Poehling’s level (I see Robertson having a slightly bigger upside than the latter), but J wouldn’t trade for him for that price.

Right now I’d rather JRob. I know this is about a year later and my life is sad because I’m checking AC-GM’s from almost a year ago, but still.

We are talking about Jason Robertson right? 27 points in 34 games, second highest PPG for rookies behind Kaprizov, third highest point total on his team.
