I don't see us trading Brodin unless we get a top 6 center. Our owner likely won't let Guerin acquire picks for next year (he's impatient as hell) and we already have too many D, no need for De Haan

Hell of an overpay for Brodin, especially since he's an UFA after next year.

Rangers laugh at that proposal and hang up the phone.

Hard to see Minnesota accepting that. Not because the value is bad but because I don't think they are rebuilding. Although I am glad to see you coming around to keeping Strome

Because Nylander has more natural talent then Kap and maybe his Brother gets it out of him AND because the Leafs are soft and Shaw brings grit to the team

The Leafs need to free up cap space to acquire defense obviously. And yes, the Leafs need grit...they are soft

Leafs need grit up front....they are soft as seen in the Columbus game. They have good players up front, but they have are soft with little to no grit and are getting pushed around.

That need defense and they need grit up front. Playing run and gun, while entertaining to watch, doesn't work in the playoffs as they've learned in the past and are learning again now.

Except that it does work when your players show up, 90% of the leafs didnt last night and grit wont change that. The leafs have consistently had grit on their teams and peoples solution is always to add more and it never works

How many playoff series are the Leafs going to lose and their fans going to continue to defend the run and gun approach?

Like I said, they need defense and they need grit. Now whether that comes in the form of better defenders or whether they get a couple forwards that can push teams around is a mood point. Playoff hockey is physical hockey, and that slows down run and gun teams every time. Leafs spent all their cap space trying to win playing run and gun....it's not a formula that works. So the trade here, replaces Kap with Nylander who has more natural talent then Kap but has struggled to find it in the NHL so far and also brings a guy who knows how to play playoff hockey and has come up big in stanley cup games with his playing style.

Remember when the leafs brought in big gritty playoff hockey boy david bolland and it was a mess? Or the countless other guys. And kyle Clifford who is right there, or muzzin or whatever? Grit has basically become a meaningless catch phrase that people slap on whatever player they like as an excuse to value them more.
And its especially useless when the gritt added is so far down the lineup it gets 5 mins of ice a game. The leafs have no room for shaw, and be wouldnt help them. His contract sucks even with the retention and hes hurt. The leafs dont need him

If you think Shaw only gets 5 minutes of ice time you are absolutely delusional!

One player (Klifford) doesn't bring enough grit and that's obvious. It takes a 3 or 4 guys willing to lay it out there physically and offensive guys who can play defense and aggressively forecheck....that is exactly who Shaw is.

The newer crop of Leafs fans haven't seen what it takes for a team to win in the playoffs and keep holding onto the run and gun theory; guys like Kap and the new great hope of Robertson...Leafs need bottom 6 guys up front that play defense, aggressive forechecking and are physical. Leafs don't have that up front and leave their defenders exposed. Yes the Leafs need better defense but defense is team effort, not just the 2 guys behind your blue line.

I love how Leafs fans think Kap is this defensive stud (he's okay defensively but far from great, and Rielly being physical??? c'mon

Yiu said 3-4 guys willing to lay it out there physically, and i gave you 5 that are very willing to. Reilly is quite physical and is a physical force, he just doesnt throw a lot of hits, but next to no one is muscling him off the puck.
So whats next?

Yeah, he's not throwing hits which is what physicality is about....being strong and not being able to get knocked off the puck is not being physical throwing hits. And for a guy that you claim is not muscling him off the puck, he sure turns the puck over a lot...in fact his giveaways to takeaway ratio is brutal especially for a defender.

So what's next?

Haha yeaaaaah no. Throwing hits is not what being physical is about. Not even close. Its an element to it, but it's not only a very small part, its hilariously over rated. You can separate someone from the puck much more efficiently if you simply take it than smashing a dude with a hit.
