I hope so. Byfield has a higher ceiling and we need a #1 centre.

I think Stutzle is a #1LW in the NHL but we already have Brady.

The Turris trade is only done if we don't get Byfield or someone to fill the top centre spot in the draft.

You already have brady and formenton and they already have turcotte and vilardi

If the cost of that Zaitsev/Turris swap is Formenton, I’d probably rather just keep Zaitsev. Not to mention Turris isn’t 1C material as @McRanteskog stated above.

The chance of you reeling in Lehner on a 1 year deal is also pretty much non-existent, regardless of the AAV, as he’s made it very clear he wants to sign a multi-year deal after this season is done.

Nah they’re definitely taking Byfield at 2. If they don’t they’ll regret it eventually imo. As good as Stutzle is (he is rly talented and will he amazing in the NHL) you draft BPA at 2nd overall. Byfield is basically a dream 1C for any coach if he reaches his potential (he likely will) and would make a lethal 1-2 punch with Turcotte. I don’t think Stutzle and Byfield are that far apart but I can’t see how you pass a guy like Byfield at 2 tbh. That’s my opinion though. Byfield would look great in a Sens uniform though and could become their 1C, which scares me as a Habs fan.

You draft BPA at 2 and you don’t think of the teams behind you. I agree Stutzle is a better fit for LA and Byfield is a better fit in Ottawa, but it’s also easier to move centers to wing than vice-versa (trust me, I’m a Habs fan and we’ve been doing this for years smh it never really works). The Kings can simply move Turcotte to LW or Villardi to RW. Anyways, Byfield-Turcotte/Villardi > Turcotte-Villardi IMO. Villardi and Turcotte can also bust, even though I don’t think that will happen and the chances of that happening are slim. Who knows? Better off safe than sorry.

Stutzle is a safer pick. He's pretty much guarenteed to be a top line LW (not in the same tier as Lafreniere though).

More unpredictability with Byfield because he is younger and not as good right now but he has more room for growth.

I'd say they have very similar value but just centers are more valuable than wingers.

Either player will fit. Just because we have Turcotte and Vilardi doesn’t mean we can’t pick Byfield.

Honestly you can't go wrong with either guy unless somehow Lafreniere is available.

Well with kopitar thomas kupari JAD madden kempe all being C rn or in the future its pretty tough to see a scenario where they take byfield

Byfield produced at a similar rate in the WJC (this year) to Lafrenière (last year). They’re almost a year in age apart. Not saying that he’ll be as good as Laffy, but it’s still a good sign. I agree Stutzle is the safer pick, but Byfield’s potential is enourmous.

Vilardi is already well aquatinted with being slotted on the RW, so the positional depth isn’t such a concern as people like to think it is.

Fingers crossed Blake at least looks at trading up for Laf though!

Thomas, Kupari, Madden and Kempe either can, have or currently are playing wing, so no, that’s not the case.

Probably some of them will bust/not be as good as hoped. Prospects are never a guarantee. Also, I know that Kupari can play LW, Thomas can play RW, Villardi can play RW and Kempe can play LW. Pretty sure that Madden can play wing too. It’s a a good problem to have a lot of centers. It gives you a lot of options since many could be moved to wing/be dealt to help other needs. I don’t think their surplus at center is that big of a problem in consequence since most are well acquainted with the wings position.

Don’t get me wrong though, Stutzle would be fantastic in LA and it would be a good pick, but I can’t help to think that Kopitar mentoring Byfield would be perfect for his development and that Byfield is the type of player that the Kings like. Speedy and strong.

Obvs Nashville trade aside (Formenton isnt going anywhere), i wouldnt mind Stutzle or Byfield. I really like both. For me, its the 5th pick that would change depending on which one we choose as i dont see Stutzle as a centre
