He has played around a season's worth of games over the last two years, no one is throwing money at him. Might make the most sense financially to take a one year deal to prove he's healthy, and the Pens use the second and third pair equally, same as the offense where they have two top lines and two third lines

hes one of a few quality RHD available in FA and playing 3rd pairing minutes isnt really the best way to prove his worth. hes better off signing a 1 year deal in OTT get traded at the deadline and boost his value that way

This year has some very high end RD available (Barrie, Pietrangelo, Tanev) and he is nowhere near that tier of player. A team like Ottawa isn't giving him much more than the 2M I proposed, he's played in 50% of games over the last three seasons and he signed his current deal coming off a career 50+ point season 4 years ago. A lot of the time, it makes more sense for the player to stay on a competitive team for a year and not have to worry about moving etc. especially with a shortened offseason this year

id say schultz is every bit as good as a Tanev and Barrie plus he has 2 cups in the last 4 years......but there is 10 teasms that could use a high end RHD and there is 5 available.... 2m isnt good

Schultz is not what he once was and teams know that, he is also nowhere near as good as Tanev and Barrie so going to have to disagree there

Vancouver declines if Virtanen's gonna play with Crosby/Malkin I'd want more than a low-end 1st

I find all of this offense to hockey sense.
Hell I don't even want Schultz back. He can leave, good bye, don't let the door hit him on the way out.

Quality RHD does not start with Schultz. That's like made in china quality defense man.
And this idea that he's "not what he once was".....He was the guy Sullivan use to hide on the ice the whole 1st cup. Giving him 7 second shifts to get him off the ice so the other team didn't score.

Nothing has changed. They need to avoid resigning him. Find someone who is more capable defensively. They have Letang and Marino capable of being offensive when they need it. Especially Letang who should spend more time in the Ozone.

You could easily get Benning from Edmonton for a3rd and sign him for this exact amount
