Are the Caps starting a rebuild next season? Is that why there’s so much fuss about Kuznetsov? Because that’s the only way they’re going to move him
IMO what he’s worth: A-list prospect(especially if they’re rebuilding), first round pick, top/middle six forward, second round pick

He's not really a prototypical Blues/Berube type player but I'm salivating at a kuzy-tarasenko duo. I'd give up schenn and another minor piece if they were ever gonna move him.

if the habs want that 1st center right now, it might make sense. Still have kotkaniemi who will likely be a top 6 center in the next year, Suzuki will have a bigger impact right away for WSH which is why they'd prefer him IMO.

Oh MTL

youre basically giving up a young 2c, 2nd pairing D, and a 2nd for a 1c with term. It all depends if MTL wants that #1 center right now.

I think Wild would be drooling over an opportunity to get a guy like him...they need a 1C bad and he'd be a great mentor for Kaprizov.

Could see them offer something like this:

Minnesota Wild
Evgeny Kuznetsov

Washington Capitals
Matt Dumba
Eric Staal (50% salary retained)
Ryan Donato
2020 1st round pick (PIT)

I saw a Sergachev-WSH post the other day. Maybe Sergachev plus a couple of our 4-5M forwards

Anybody x3 outside of top 5 forwards and morrissey and helly signed the jets. First rounder, heinola, and previous first rounder forward, and that’s just opening bid lol

Kuznetsov is not the type of player MTL needs, and not the type of player Julien loves.

Maybe I'm wearing my homer glasses but... this seems like a lot for Kuzy. He's a great player and extremely talented but he can be inconsistent and is really bad in his own zone. I do like him and I'd maybe be interested without Staal but even then I'd rather not give up the PIT pick, we need to rebuild our prospect pool. I guess I'm also hoping Dumba continues his strong play through the play-ins and raises his value back to where it used to be.

Kuzy is high end. I imagine it would take a top D man (22-26) 1st round pick and a really good prospect. Doubt caps trade him. When Kuzy is at atvjos best there aren’t many players better than him.

While I agree with you regarding Kuzy, I hold that he'd probably be the most skilled (and probably the best) forward to play for wild since prime Gaborik and I don't really see any reason for Caps to consider selling him low.

As it currently stands, if I were Caps I'd want a rental C to take Kuzy's place (while they develop McMichael to take his slot), a good TOP4 D-man (preferably more defensively able than Dumba but Wild doesn't really have other options to offer other than Spurgeon whose contract makes him pretty much unmovable), a depth asset (in this case, Donato), and a future asset (the arguably low first rounder).

This thread gives me hope. I saw threads earlier that suggested Kuzy for Trouba. Kuzy is an elite level talent and players like him arent normal available. He’s they type of player you trade and regret it forever.

Whoever suggested a Kuzy for Trouba trade is a f*cking idiot, and that's putting it mildly.

I'd say Kuznetsov is TOP30 C in the NHL, roughly a TOP25. Elite class and the clear 1C in many, many teams.

I think Fiala has taken that title, he scored 26 points in the final 19 games of the season and has looked every bit as good so far since play has resumed. That being said Kuzy would look incredible with Fiala and Kaprizov.

I think that's fair a fair value assessment, although I'd argue Dumba is probably a top pairing player on a lot of teams, or at least a really good #3. If the Caps want a defensive D, they should look at Brodin instead (though I'd be surprised if we moved him over Dumba given Addison's emergence). If this trade happened I'd probably feel like we got a little bit fleeced but I'd be happy we finally have a competent long-term 1C
