Why are you dumping Johnsson and Dermott. They both are quality NHLers, who can fetch a better return than that

are you the guy that said dermott was better than seth jones, or the guy who said you wouldn't trade dermott straight up for ovechkin?

The value is fair but what’s the incentive for us to give a cheap RHD to the Leafs who are in cap trouble.

Yes he's cheap but certainly not an NHL player at this point , wings will have pretty good RHD prospect/Players when they draft Drysdale, Wings can definitely use an upgrade on LHD to go with their very young core, Johnsson isn't a cap dump, he's a very capable NHL player who will help the Wings offence and fits their rebuild timeline - TBH Leafs are getting fleeced pretty good here

It's called improving your team - regardless of who you think you're helping - I really don't see how this trade helps the leafs

Lindstrom isn’t as bad as you think. He definitely has a chance of being a 3rd pair D next year. He’s more of a defensive defenseman so his numbers aren’t that impressive.

I have to admit that after looking at this trade a bit longer I think the Wings would accept though

Never said he was bad, you can't deny adding another potential 3rd pair D for the cost of Johnsson and Dermott in no way helps the leafs

I never said Dermott was better than Jones, I said they are very similar. And I said, it doesnt make sense for the Leafs to trade a cheap young up and coming defenseman for an aging Ovechkin on an expensive contract

They are similar in that their current profession is hockey player other than that nothing about them is similar.

Your eyes are very flawed and are incapable of understanding each and every single thing done by all 12 players on the ice at at time. Multiply that by all the games that are played every day for however many days, the human brain is incapable of keeping up. The stats however, can follow along with every game accurately

If analytics are so great why have all of the analytic GMs not accomplish anything? Analytics are one component to consider when evaluating a player. There’s multiple factors when comparing player x Vs player y. Quality of competition, line mates, stylistic play, scheme, etc. How many Norris nominations does Dermott have and is Dubas aware of Dermott’s underlying analytics?

Dubas and the Leafs have done a pretty good job so far, though trading for Barrie wasnt a great idea. The Leafs dont have any bad contracts given to players that arent "stars" (Ceci is a UFA) how many other GMs can say that? Also keep in mind, the Leafs core hasnt hit their prime yet (except Tavares). Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly, Robertson, Sandin, Liljegren and Dermott will be scary good in a few years. Pair that with veterans in Tavares, Hyman, Muzzin and Andersen (if he stays).

Also, pretty much everything Chayka has done says he isnt an analytics guy. (Keller was extremely overpaid, Kessel was never good analytically, Hall looked terrible this year, OEL was given too much for too long) So dont try to tell me he was an analytics guy.

Chayka worked for a company called “ Stathletes” prior to working for the Coyotes. Yes, you aren’t drastically over paying any of your non-stars but that’s a major qualifier for such a short history at the helm of Dubas. It still doesn’t make sense that if Dermott has these truly amazing underlying analytics why isn’t Dubas an analytics GM pushing him to get more ice time? Analytics should be pushed with a grain of salt as they aren’t always the greatest measuring tool without context. I remember seeing years ago people saying Brendan Smith is a monster and had better analytics than Doughty, he is now a cap dump....

Jones has certainly been in the Norris conversation a few seasons running, he's been officially nominated once - Dermott doesn't compare to Jones - resumes aren't even close

Look at the teams that use analytics the most and compare them to teams that dont use much analytics.

The Leafs, Canes, Avs and Bolts have the biggest analytics departments. Look at where they are now/where they will be in a few years.

And teams like the Sabres and Sharks that dont have a large analytics department.

Theres a big difference in where the 2 teams are right now

Every team minus two (Anaheim & Islanders since last year) employs at minimum one analyst/developer and some also outsource this work to an outside firm.

Here is a list of employees from the start of the season by each team. This doesn’t include outside vendors that aid in the construction, cleaning, and modeling so some teams (That source specifically mentions Montreal and Panthers) will have more on staff.
