I don't think so. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see anyone on the right side behind Labanc.

Chiasson would be good on the third line RW.

I mean people like Gambrell, True, and Noesen can all play RW. I agree he could be decent but we need to get top 6 forwards first.

I think if Chiassion is available for a 6th round pick there's no harm in accepting. It doesn't take away from SJSs ability to acquire a top 6 forward.

True but it limits the options. I also think there's better options in free agency for 2.1. Chiasson's stats and contract are very similar to Sorensen and I would like to trade Sorensen too.

Its gonna be a great year for the Sens if all these guys are getting moved out for dirt cheap.

This isn't bad, but it would be better if they traded Kosk to clear 4m and don't sign Griess, cause then they could get a cheap backup and a few picks from trading Kosk and sign a solid goaltender like Lehner or Holtby, but that's my opinion. This is definitely a solid team otherwise

Who's gonna take Koskinen over signing Lehner themselves?

Moving out 4.5M is easier said than done.

Yeah I was looking at their roster when I made the ACGM. Winner really depends on Athanasiou. I don't think he's a good fit in Edmonton.

Hell no. We don’t have cap space to take on Neal even if we wanted to, and a low 1st that could be delayed as much as 2 years is just horrible compensation for a contract that bad. Marleau costed a first for $6.5 million, so going by that, it should cost you at least 2 1sts to move Neal. Not to mention that we’re giving you Byron and a 3rd for free.

We play a very structured defensive 1-1-3 set. If you could have AA, Guri, and Hintz on three different lines they could be the high forward. Ideally giving them chances to use their speed and finish. I think it could work nicely. I’m not sure if he’ll be a 30 goal guy for us but I think he would be an affordable threat that works well with what we already have

Offer isn't enough but I think there's something to exploit there. Neal's been pretty bad in Calgary but has steadily scored 20+ goals everywhere else he've played, could this be another Tatar situation where he comes back to his usual form in Montreal? OP most likely added Byron in the deal to even out the cap situation for Montreal, it isn't an horrible contract but Byron's been injury prone in the last couple of years so the thinking good.
In the end Montreal ends up eating 2.35M$ more on the cap for the same length of years for a less defensively reliable player with roughly the same production and gets a first rounder for it. The second year protection should only be something along top 7-8 protected to make it interesting enough to think about it and I think there should be just an extra little sweetener in the deal for Montreal to consider it, maybe Raphael Lavoie and MTL gives their better 3rd rounder in the deal instead of the late -or even STL 2nd-?

Neal doesn’t try a lot of the time. Sure he has a good shot, but his effort isn’t good, and if you don’t try your absolute best, he’s going to get completely destroyed in Montreal, and he won’t be on the ice. So this is essentially dead money.

And no matter what the crazy people say, Byron is still a valuable asset to the team, and I would take him over Neal 11 times out of 10, even if you don’t take contracts into consideration. And Lavoie isn’t anything special, and he certainly isn’t anything that would cause me to want to trade for James Neal.

You do realize using Marleau as an example is horrible because it’s a very completely different situation. Toronto had to pay a first to move him because he had to be bought out as part of the trade. VERY DIFFERENT

I don't think Edmonton paying a 1st for get Neal's 5.75mil down to Byron's 3.4mil for 3 years instead of just buying Neal out to get the cap hit down to 1.9mil for 6 years makes sense.

Yeah if he wasn't getting paid 2.1 million... :/

We could get someone twice as good as him for half the price elsewhere...

Dude on ELC putting up 40+ points. That's gonna cost a 1st minimum.

Who knows what the cap will be like. I don't like the idea of having 2M locked up for nothing for the next 6 years.

At least Byron is a useful albeit overpaid bottom 6 player.

Basically I want to take full advantage of McDavid's window.

That 1st round pick will likely be a pretty low one and have a 50% chance of being an NHLer in 4 years (mostly bottom 6 if they do make the NHL).

It would be good for Edmonton next year but then for this year they are in terrible shape. Greiss would need to take 55-60 starts. Edmonton only saves 1.75M in cap space.
