Kadri for Cirelli or Danault

Description
I had a look at Kadri's analytics and thought it was worth exploring what options might be out there if we decided to make a change at 2C.

For reference here's a post I made on HFBoards discussing Kadri's analytics: https://hfboards.mandatory.com/posts/172692659/

Obviously analytics aren't everything, and Kadri is still a positive possession player pacing 31 goals this season. But if we can get a younger 2C like Cirelli or Danault it might be worth considering.

Either way I'm keen to hear some thoughts on these ideas in the comments...

What would make the trades balanced? Removing the picks?

While Kadri is good and so is his contract, I'd rather have an elite defensive 2C than him.

Can you elaborate on what would make the trade balanced? Does Colorado need to add? If so, what do they add?

Think you are overvaluing Kadri pretty significantly in the Cirelli and Danault deals.

In that case Montreal isn't adding, Colorado should. Kadri is 5 years older for roughly the same production

They need to add big time, Neither of those team are trading good 2C for an aging player. Both Tampa and Montreal decline Kadri isn't a piece that gets you either player try more like Newhook for a starter.

How about a 3 way trade, something like:

      To Colorado: Danault
      To Montreal: Top 4 LHD
      To 3rd team: Kadri

The 3rd team could be anyone who needs a 2C, like Florida, Minnesota, Buffalo, Columbus, or Calgary, to name a few examples. Maybe Montrela could receive Yandle++; Gavrikov/Nutivara/Murray; or one of Hanifin or Valimaki for example. Kadri nixed a trade to Calgary last summer though.

Tampa won't be laughing at much of anything this off season. Take out the pick and that's actually not a terrible idea for them. Depends on how the numbers look though, as adding any cash to their payroll is tough.

Kadri is a 30+30 C, and is in his prime years which works perfectly for Tampa given that they want to win right now. Getting a 2C at $3.5m AAV for 2 years would help them a lot during the cap crunch years.

Danault has never shown that he can produce away from Gallagher and Tatar on the 1st line. He may be elite defensively but I don't think the value between him and Kadri is as significant as you're saying.

Montreal and Tampa might be on Kadri's no trade list, especially the former. I don't think he'll want to go to Montreal after being in the Leafs organization for so long.

Why would Tampa be on his no-trade list? It's a great team in a nice city, and in an income tax free state.

Yeah maybe it was a bit ambitious to include picks, but I think Tampa would have to at least think about this. Worth bearing in mind that Sakic could easily drop an offersheet on them for Cirelli, in which case they only get a 1st + 3rd (and maybe a 2nd) in compensation, whereas in this trade they'd be getting back a really cheap 2C signed for 2 years which lines up well with the Point contract.

Doesn't matter a 29 year old Kadri isn't getting you Cirelli and Tampa sure as hell isn't sending a 2nd on top of him.

Ok take out the pick. Kadri (with retention) + pick/prospect for Cirelli. Tampa get a super cheap 2C for 2 years during their prime cup window. And also remove the OS threat from Colorado. Not a bad solution for them.

Hence why I said take out the pick. In a vacuum Kadri doesn't get Cirelli (mainly due to age), but the Bolts are in a pretty big pickle. They need to worry more about icing the best team possible during the flat cap era than winning a trade. This can all change if they're able to move guys with trade protection, but it's not a ludicrous offer under the circumstances.
