Description

So this off-season I think we need to start looking forward to the expansion draft. So we trade Bonino And retain a million and a 2nd for puljujarvi. And we trade Ellis and Jarnkrok to Toronto to get younger and expansion exempt players. Sign shattenkirk for a fill in rhd. So now we can protect 7-3-1 so we protect Duchene, Johansen, Forsberg, arvi, hall, Kapanen and Tolvanen at our forwards and josi, Ekholm and Fabbro at our defense and saros. We can pay Seattle to take Turris or they can take shattenkirk or who ever we sign to fill in for the loss of Ellis. And then if we have the cap space we sign Larsson. Don’t know if the players we traded for need protection so there’s that too

That Toronto trade is laughable. Like what is that? You traded your older players for their best prospects. And most of those guys don’t even get those prospects one for one. Sure Ellis is a nice piece but come on

Remove Robertson and Sandin as well as Carrier and Watson. Add a TOR protected first or a TOR second and third and that trade already looks more fair.

Without getting into trade values, you are trading 9 mil in cap space to Toronto while only taking 3 mil in cap space and waiver exempt buriable players in return. Toronto is a cap strapped team already and you are taking the league minimum assets they need to make it work. You've got to examine the other side of the trades too. In this case, while Ellis would be fantastic to have we wouldn't have the pieces left to make the cap work.
