The trade looked great for Nashville at the time but Granlund just hasn't worked out for them

Yeah maybe but it left a hole at 2LW. Fiala was young and NSH knew he'd hit UFA in 2 seasons. Shame.

A lot of players haven't worked out for Nashville lately, seems to be a bit of a trend, is it the players or something else that's the issue..

Fiala had some maturity issues and was reportedly a distraction in the locker room. Likely gave up on him too soon, but unfortunately, changes of scenery seem to be necessary for some players. Granlund didn't seem to gel with Lavy's system, but showed improvement under Hynes. For a group that lobbied to stay together, they've played too inconsistently. If they don't make some type of playoff run, there will likely be changes.

Not gonna lie, as much as I loved having Granlund on the Wild, I'm excited about what Fiala can do for us. At the time of the trade I was angry, but not anymore.

I think Wild fans can agree, it was never the fact that we traded for Fiala that we were angry about. On the contrary Fiala's numbers at his age point and upside were better than Granlund's by far. What pissed us off was that Fenton should have gotten more for a proven player of Granny's caliber who had just come off of back to back 60 point seasons. That warranted at least a second prospect or an additional draft pick on top of getting Fiala.

Instead, it has since been revealed that Fenton initially wanted to give up more than just Granlund for Fiala. He had to be literally talked out of it.

*please excuse me while I scream*

Fenton was an idiot. The man can scout like a mother ****er, but was a giant Jackhole and had no grasp on basic GM'ing 101.

Thank God we have Guerin now!

That's exactly why I was upset. I knew we needed to trade Granlund but the return was abysmal. I heard the same about Fenton. However, I do have to thank Fenton for three things: Fiala, Evason, and Brad Hunt. The first two are self explanatory but I also think his trade/extension for Brad Hunt were genius moves. Not glamorous by any means but I think Hunt has done everything the coaches have asked of him. Darn good 3rd pairing D-man.

So there is some consolation prize for the trainwreck that was Fenton's tenure as GM. But one can only imagine what we would be if a different GM was hired instead of Fenton 2 years ago.
