I suspect you might live in LA so I will give you some slack , but there is not a chance that Matthews is now not considered one of the top 2 way centers in the NHL. Your list has some great players but Matthews is taking his game to a new level above these players you mentioned.

Matthews is not a 2 way centreman. Fantastic shooter with good offensive skill but nothing to write home about defensively at all. Shouldn’t be in the conversation

This is the same dude who said Rielly is a top 5 D in the NHL, Dermott has top pairing potential, and Sandin could turn into the next Nick Lidstrom... don’t read too much into his posts lol

The Leafs defence is fine and you are forgetting that Rielly, Muzzen, Dermott and Ceci were injured for significant periods of time during the season and Babcock did a poor job running the team until he was fired.

This list down to Cirelli is good. After that it becomes more debatable at least.

Lol, 2-way centre. Matthews is one of the best goal scorers in the NHL right now, but he certainly isn’t anything special defensively.

I know, I feel bad for him. He also said Chaz Reddekop was the best defenseman on the AHL Reign and he plays with heart and he should see a few games next season. He was hands down our worst defenseman and wont be resigned lol

You need to look outside the box of what you hear from the media who have no ability to look out into the future.

He probably will get some selke votes. He could be in the 20s range. Again; he’s solid defensively, but this post has homer written all over it.
