Detroit - My Take

Description
This team has a ton of awful contracts, but still have quite a bit of cap room. I think Toronto could make a good trade partner. Dermott and Johnsson are both young and may need a new home (we will see how the playoffs go). Did a few low key signings to help solidify a few positions. Players with a lot to prove. Biggest improvement is getting Lehner in net. Could make them go from a **** team to a mediocre team. Still this team will struggle, unless miracles happen.

Bracco was a throw in for the trade. He needs a new home for sure and a team like Detroit could at least give him a shot.

Something tells me Haula would sign in Detroit! I hope someone signs with Detroit lol.
I think chucky found a new home in minny.
I do like the idea of getting Dermott and johansen. But hate the idea of helping Toronto in any way smile

As a Toronto fan, I don't want to trade either of them but it may be a reality. Johnsson was our MVP when we won the Calder Cup a few years back and plays with mad heart. Dermott has a lot of potential. I see Johnsson being a cap casualty this year (just like Connor Brown was last year) and Dermott may or may not be. Either way I see this trade helping Detroit quite a bit!

I wouldn’t be opposed to some sort of trade involving Johnsson and/or Dermott but Detroit’s 2nd is 32 OA and is basically a late first. I doubt we move that pick.

Definitely. Could agree on the middle of their 3 - 2nds.

I dont see detroit giving up good draft capital while they are rebuilding.

For teams that dont need Johnson and Dermott Toronto isn't getting value plus cap relief.

Plus just stop with Bracco.

2 Detroit fans have commented on this thread that they could/would be interested in Johnsson and Dermott. Just maybe not for the 32nd overall. Detroit could benefit greatly from both. Both players are young and fit nicely in a rebuild. As for Bracco, he was literally just a throw in with very little or no added value to the trade. I wrote that in the team description. Detroit could be the one team where he actually gets some ice time to see if he is an NHL player or not. Realistically the Leafs may not qualify him and he may become a UFA. Detroit should sign him for league minimum under those circumstances and give him a shot. Couldn't hurt!

Ya honestly don’t really want to give up draft picks so I don’t like the trade but yes like the players. Also I doubt Stevie is giving up any picks unless he’s getting someone he really wants.

Way rather have the cap space and picks if I'm Detriot. They are not bad players.

How often do you see rebuilding teams give up draft picks for pieces that can be picked up in free agency?

Ok. Dement yes but Johnsson is a no. Coming off an injury so steam like Detroit is not giving up a 2nd for a player who might not come back as the player he was. Wings not in the position to give up picks for a player coming off an injury.

And PLEASE stop with Bracco. He is at best a 4th liner or a press box player in the NHL.
