It's only 1 year left on Stepans deal and Marcus Johannson outperformed him this year playing out of position on a much worse team.

I don't think I would trade Kahun on his own for 1 year of those two players. There are many options available for backup goalie that won't cost us a good forward or 4 + million. We can use the additional cap to address other needs on our roster. No thanks

The point of clearing Stepans salary is to be able clear cap for Hall or another UFA forward that should offer alot more offense for your team. Holding 6.5 million of your cap space for a player that you hope can get you 40 - 50 points again if there play improves is an anchor on your teams offensive potential
