2022-23 Jones signing

Description
I'm tired of seeing the same trades over and over again so I thought I'd look at the Canucks roster during the 2022-23 season if Columbus were to let Jones reach free agency. I think the cap remains flat but I raised in to 84.5mil because I can't get rid of Lu's cap recapture which would be off the books. I know some player's contracts would have expired but none would get significant raises so I get left it as is. I did give Boeser a new contract tho.

If Demko warrants a 2023 1st how do you plan on keeping through the ED with signing Markstrom? Pay Seattle to take someone else? Seems a bit odd.

Markstrom signs without a NMC so they protect Demko over Markstrom

he would be if he didnt curve down the last two seasons. hes still young, its completely reasonable to think he can reach those heights again.

That doesnt protect both of them?? NMC doesnt protect player from expansion only no trade does and then at that point the team is forced to use thier protection on that player. No scenario to protect two goalies

Why would Markstrom do that though? It’s not like you’re paying over market value @5M or adding security with only 4 years.

Maybe, he’s a good defenseman but I see him worth no more than 6.5-7 mill. I have no doubt he’ll get 9 just because of his reputation

If Markstrom get taken so be it but I can't see Seattle taking a 31-year-old goalie when Murray or Jarry could be available

They can take more than one goalie and are also required to take a min of 3 goalies

I get that but If they have a starting goalie taking a 31-year-old backup making 5mil doesn't really make sense. But again if they do take him it doesn't really matter in this situation

I messed up it was supposed to be 5 years but I would still give him a NTC so he wouldn't be in any danger of moving but I also think any other team he signs with has a worse chance to win the cup which may play into him resigning with Vancouver

Fleury was 32 when he was taken by Vegas. I dont think Markstromm will go from a good starting goalie this year to a "31 year old backup" in less than a year. As well you do not truly think this or you wouldnt sign him to the deal above or be trying to hold onto him so badtears of joy

I think you are just being an overly optomistic fan with unrealistic expectations as seen by your trades that all heavily favour VAN

It's not that he's going to be a backup but If Murray or Jarry is available they are going to be the starting goalie so if Markstrom is also available why would they take him he would have little to no value due to his age and the fact he probably has a NTC. It's not that he would be a back up it's that he would be a backup behind a better goalie. You're also the only person I've seen with any problem with the trades. The Demko trade has literally zero effect on the team. If he gets chosen so be it the team would literally be the exact same I have no idea why you're so hung up on it

Then why did you make it Columbus. We aren’t going to just let Jones walk, he will likely get an extension or at least be traded before he walks.

We aren’t taking your trash to let you sign him.

A NTC is not the same as a NMC "Players with no-trade clauses only do not qualify as no-movement clauses" https://www.nhl.com/devils/news/nhl-expansion-draft-101/c-289908006

I mean you let Panarin and Bob walk why wouldn't it be the same scenario, also I doubt you sign him Columbus doesn't really give out big contracts to anybody

We don’t just let them walk... Panarin wanted to sign in New York and actually took less to play there. Bob just wanted out. Both were offered extensions several times. The only player we let walk was Duchene who never even got offered a contract.

If you don’t think Columbus would sign Jones or at least offer him more money you’re mistaken.

If he stays so be it but I built this team on the fact that he does leave which is a legit possibility. I mean has Columbus ever signed anyone to a 7+mil contract?

A NTC is not the same as a NMC "Players with no-trade clauses only do not qualify as no-movement clauses" https://www.nhl.com/devils/news/nhl-expansion-draft-101/c-289908006

I know..... a NTC protects the player from expansion draft but a NMC does not protect the player from expansion draft
