Sergachev stays in Tampa for $5 million per, Though Tampa probably accepts that offer.

It's a worse team than they have now, with no cap space left and a buyout on the books for 5 years.

Agreed Sabres aren't giving up anything significant for Johansen without retention.

Neal for Turris would have to involve some kind of additional compensation for the Oilers.

The past two seasons have seen Turris turn in underwhelming performances. In comparison Neal had one atrocious season in Calgary, in which his point total and +/- are very similar to what Tuirris produced that same season. Last season Neal seemed to have found a way to bounce back despite his many drawbacks. Playing primarily as a bottom 6 forward and power play specialist, he managed to collect 19 goals and maintain a pace that would have had him surpass 20 goals if not for injury and the shortened season. No doubt both players are in decline and over payed, but it looks like Turris is further along that path than Neal.

Turris has a higher cap hit AND an extra year. No way do the Oilers add Benning in this scenario.

Turris has the higher cap hit and 4 years left vs 3 for Neal. I wouldn't do it 1-for-1 let alone adding Benning!

Absolutely not add benning but neal for turris as the foundation of a deal could make some sense nashville would need to be offering extra to justify the additional term. Could do worse than turris as a 3c. I’m not suggesting that’s a direction I’d go but I’d entertain idea.

Yeah, I've thought about it too, but someone pointed out to me that you could get a better 3C by buying Neal out and spending the savings ($3.8M) on a UFA. That soured me on doing a Turris deal.

I’m not sold on buying out neal as an option. Actually don’t think he’s going to be that difficult to move. Could retain the 1.9 a buyout would cost and that puts neal under 4 million which should be a very attractive option for multiple teams looking for veteran with plenty of playoff experience also a very long consistent history minus the one year in Calgary. I really think people think he’s overpaid more than he really is and discredit his bounce back year because he’s on the same team as mcdavid and Leon which Gms don’t think like that. Retain instead of buyout would be cleared off books twice as fast

Did you mean remove the 1st coming from Buffalo AND the Preds retain on Johansen? That's not a realistic ask.

How much retention are you thinking - $1M? Marcus Johansson makes $4.5 and Mittelstadt needs a new contract. I'm not sure what he gets, but Evolving hockey has him getting $1.2 for two years. If we use that number, NSH is now paying $6.7M next year for a 3rd line vet they don't have a spot for, and a reclamation project. They're giving up a top six center, an okayish prospect, and a 3rd, for less than $1.5M in cap space. It's a horrible deal.

I’m not sure I would rather keep Johansen as the 2c around the same point production and 4 million dollars cheaper.

I'm not sure what you're saying in your last post. If you mean you'd rather keep Marcus Johansson than trade for Ryan Johansen, that's fine. FWIW that's only $3.5M cheaper, not 4, and I don't think referring to two as having around the same point production is an accurate assessment of the two players' talent levels.

Johansen doesn't have a bargain contract, but NSH isn't going to give him away for nothing. I think he'd be good in BUF, but the players coming back do nothing for NSH, and the minimal cap savings aren't enough to consider it.
