Would think van would want something more than an ahl player for that much retained money. Oilers would accept but I don’t see van willing to offer that deal.

You could do better for Virtanen. I'd offer TT, our 2020 2nd, and Pilut for Virtanen and your 2020 3rd

The trade with Edmonton makes some sense when you consider Vancouver is retaining 50% salary on a player who has missed almost 42% of his team's regular season games over the past 5 seasons. That being stated, Sutter has to be declining due to age, injuries, and the large numbers of games missed. Although he may be effective when healthy, its unlikely Sutter will bring Edmonton much value as a 3C. He could help the Oilers make a bit more room under the cap if he continues to spend lots of time of the LTIR, but I think Holland would be hesitant to consider Sutter. There are lower risk options out there.

I think the Value is fair. He has had a very similar career to Jimmy Vesey. Lots of hype and expectation coming into the league and some flashes, but limites production. Vesey was traded for a future 3rd. He was on an expiring contract and Virtanen is RFA for a couple more years so he costs a little more, but production wise they are very similar, slight edge to Vesey and Vesey is the more defensively responsible of the two. Long winded way of saying the proposed value is fair. Maybe even remove the 4th and make the 2nd a 2021 pick

How exactly will a guy that missed 42% of the games add much value for edmonton. We don’t need more cap dumps and can pay a million more and get Soderberg or someone like that.

Except that Virtanen is a much better skater, is much better at using his size and strength, and knows how to finish a play. Vesey can do none of those things, at least he didn't with Buffalo

Those skills have not produced better results. Virtanen definitely has a higher upside, but he has played parts of 6 seasons in the NHL so to expect much more growth from him is short sighted. He is worth a little more than Vesey because of the chance that he develops more. That is why a 2nd instead of a third and a player in Pilut. The year Vesey had this year would have been a standard season for Virtamen to this point in his career.

Easy no from Edmonton. I wouldn't take Sutter if he was free. Waste of a roster spot.

That's the point I am trying to make, albeit in a polite manner.
