The trade with Edmonton makes some sense when you consider Vancouver is retaining 50% salary on a player who has missed almost 42% of his team's regular season games over the past 5 seasons. That being stated, Sutter has to be declining due to age, injuries, and the large numbers of games missed. Although he may be effective when healthy, its unlikely Sutter will bring Edmonton much value as a 3C. He could help the Oilers make a bit more room under the cap if he continues to spend lots of time of the LTIR, but I think Holland would be hesitant to consider Sutter. There are lower risk options out there.
