Certainly nothing wrong with the value in the Flames trade. A solid middle 6 forward for a mid level prospect and a 2nd. It also fills a position of need for the Flames.

Would the Flames do it? I guess it depends on whether or not they believe they can get Armia signed to a palatable extension and also on how they feel about little Z and where he fits going forward.

Comes down to the Flames trying to figure where either player will be in 3 years time, and which scenario they would rather have.

Sakic wouldn't even trade Timmins + 1st for Hall last year, no way he does it for Tatar.

I'd MUCH rather have Timmins and Niemela locking down our RHD going forwards than 1 year of Tatar. Not even close.

Avs fans clearly #triggered on Timmins, lol.

I'm looking at your roster, and that season: Timmins is at least starting, if not in the top-4. So, I don't think you'd need to re-up Petry.

They'd need to sign Suzuki next year but if we let Petry walk instead of resigning him we would take a cap dump.

Armia takes up 2.6M+ at this point and we have plenty of players who could step up and produce similarly for less. The 2nd is somewhat near his value and Zavgorodny has improved a ton since being drafted in the 7th round.

First off, Romanov>>>Timmins and our 1st is much more valuable than Colorado's. Also there would be an extension included, which would make the deal balanced.

      You must be joking?
      Timmins is RHD > LHD
      Timmins has 3” more size
Timmins is NHL ready right now

Timmins was 2017 32 OA (just one year and 6 positions ahead of Romanov in 2018 at 38OA).

Romanov put up a pretty disappointing 11 points in 86 games in the KHL plus 0 points in 8 playoff games.

What fantasy stat are you using to evaluate Romanov? Cause based on point production, size, NHL readiness, and player handedness, Timmins is ahead

Timmins got ranked ahead of Romanov in The Athletic's recent drafted prospect rankings (#44 vs #48). Obviously the ranking is just an opinion, but it does suggest that Romanov isn't valued much higher than Timmins, if at all. The fact that Timmins is a RHS also give him a bit of an edge as RHD are harder to find.

The Athletic may be an exception but I've seen Romanov touted as an elite prospect in many other rankings above Timmins (The Hockey News especially). But that wasn't my point. Romanov is much more valuable to Montreal than Timmins is to Colorado. As a rebuilder, he is one of our best prospect and he will lead our LHD in the future. Whereas Timmins is behind Makar for your LHD and has Helleson there as well and you are a contending team.

I meant based on how valuable they are to their teams. But I would be willing to try to make a case for Romanov being seen as a better prospect. Romanov is NHL ready now and despite his size he is a very strong player. Playing 2nd pairing minutes in the KHL as producing like that as a defenseman is impressive and not disappointing. He is ready to play in the NHL on a 2nd pairing or higher where Timmins would most likely struggle due to facing weaker competition in the past. Their overall selection at the draft has very little impact on their value as Romanov has proved to be 1st round talent similarly to Timmins. Keep in mind Romanov is a year younger than Timmins and is of similar skill.

Fair argument about Romanov being more valuable to Montreal than Timmins to Colorado. Montreal have no top 4 LHD of note, so they are desperate for Romanov to turn into that. Colorado need a top 4 RHD replacement for Johnson, but that situation isn't as acute as Montreal's need for LHD.

That said, the fact that Romanov is NHL ready isn't an advantage over Timmins because he is also NHL ready. In fact, Coach Bednar apparently wanted to play him right after he was drafted but he got concussed. And then last season he made the team out of camp and played 2 games and did very well, but they decided it was better for him to play 1st pairing minute in the AHL for 1 season rather than a sheltered role on a stacked blueline in the NHL. He's going to surprise a lot of people when he starts playing regularly, really good Dman who may jump straight into playing at a top 4 level.
