Description
FIRSTLY the trades outside of PIT can happen with any team really....the teams listed are placeholders so don't get bent of shape.

The Hawks will trade away one of De Haan, Maatta or Murphy during the offseason. Additionally, if mitchell proves he is able to play in the NHL at the start of next season, one more of those 3 (Maatta, De Haan, Murphy) will be traded in the first half of next season. Out of the 3, I think the Hawks would be most reluctant to trade away Connor Murphy given his success.

Something is up with Crow and not sure if the Hawks are going to re-sign him for anything more then $3M given his risk. As such, I think Crow heads to free agency or hangs it up. Players aren't going to see their salaries cut in 1/2 to play for a team that has little chance to truly compete.

Hawks draft Sanderson or Lundell. If they draft Lundell, Strome will be traded anytime in the next year. However, I doubt anytime between now and up to the TDL. I like the trade Strome for Brodin (with extension) but the reality is, Hawks can easily compete for Brodin's UFA rights next offseason or execute a trade at the TDL. Don't think the Hawks crown Lundell as Strome's replacement until they get a better grasp on him under the organization's own development post draft. If they draft Sanderson, Strome obviously stays and the Hawks bet on Sanderson stepping in 1 year post draft. Sanderson won't be ready for first line duties for 3 years posts draft is my bet, but also coincides with Keith's contract being up.

I lean towards drafting Lundell and grabbing Brodin in UFA next offseason to pair with Boqvist. Those two would make a great pairing. Keith and Mitchell on the 2nd line would be incredible. Murphy with Seabs or Murphy with Carlsson would make a very good 3rd line. Our defense would vastly improve.

Last topic, Pius Suter. Suter will have to earn his right to play and will start out on the bottom 6. IF and only IF, he is a pot of gold like Kubalik, then he steps up. As such, Saad would be moved at the TDL and Suter would be his eventual replacement on the top line.

Good thoughts. I'm personally not ready to say Jarry is a true starter. We have ~$4M left over. I'd rather pay Markstrom or Lehner what they're owed (won't be too much more than Jarry) and then draft a bunch of goalies in the later rounds. Starting goalies are a numbers game. The Cayden Primeau's of the world are indeed out there.

Great thoughts also! I could see keeping our 2nd and 3rd draft picks plus Krys and doing exactly what you're saying as well.

At first I was somewhat on board with trading Strome, but seeing his chemistry with Kane and Nylander, along with his chemistry with Debrincat, I think we should try not to move him. He's really figuring it out here. I know, that line is definitely driven by Kane, but we've seen worse lines with Kane on them. For me, this leads us to either drafting Sanderson or Askarov. If the FO is confident in Suter, then essentially we have no place in the top 9 for a forward, and maybe if they are as confident in Kalynuk and Beaudin as they are saying, they draft the goalie. Sanderson is probably the pick I go with (if he is even available there) but I wouldnt put it past them to show too much loyalty to the current group of guys. Also as far as lundell goes, I know he's a pretty solid option and unlikely to truly bust at this point, but I think with the group of guys we have, upside is the best bet, so if we wanted a center either a guy like Mercer or Holloway, or if we wanted a winger I would go with Quinn.

I think your jumping the gun here on Jarry.

He really only had 1 good month and was average the test of the season.
5 million is way too much.

With regards to the expansion draft in 2021, who would then have slated as the person the Seattle Franchise would most likely take. I think it would be Murphy or Shaw but are there any players we should be worried about. Also nice job not spending all the cap space we have in case we need to trade for someone or just saving for future extensions.

I tend to agree so not sure if he or Murray would be a better option and either way, this is likely a slight overpay but there are a couple PIT fans who scream they want the world so trying to split the difference.

Cap space for that reason but also to cover the carryover bonuses from last year, I believe they are close to $2M that count against this next season cap.

It's a good question who we expose. Shaw for sure would be exposed and likely Kampf. Signing Koekko for 2 years also allows us to expose him. Quite a number of our players would be exempt on ELCs; Hawks are the 6th youngest team in the NHL believe it or not (maybe 5th).

100% agree on most of what you're saying. One thing I would change is giving a bridge to Jarry. He should sign around 2x2.5 mil. Also, in my opinion Strome+sanderson>Brodin+Lundell. Otherwise looks good

I think Lundell ultimate is going to have more upside then Strome and Sanderson will take a few years before we can consider whether he's a 1st liner whereas Brodin can step in now and we know he can compete on the 1st line. In a perfect world, I think Strome and Brodin to compete now would be the best option, problem being, we don't have the right assets to grab Brodin right now and not sure we have the cap space next off season to get him in free agency.

I'm with you on this Jarry business. I have no idea where this concept that he's a starter, and worthy of contacts that size, came from. He was never as good as Murray, and I wouldn't want Murray at that price either. I could see Jarry getting a trial bridge as @Wadejos123 suggested, but is Chicago really going to be the place for that?

Markstrom is fools good. I don't care how good he's been recently, I've watched a lot of Canucks games over the years and the guy has been remarkably awful for 90% of the time he's been there. Do not pan for fool's gold.

I don't know what happened with this organization and Lehner, if anything did. But the wind was sure as **** knocked out of his sails in the last weeks before he was jettisoned to the desert. If it was just losing games and losing faith, and he'd come back at a solid price, PAY THE MAN. If not, well...

What are the other realistic options for the Hawks to do in goal? I'm not even sure anymore...

That may have been my favorite thing Stan Bowman ever did. Though who can say Stan did anything, Chiarelli was such a raging incompetent that it is entirely possible he called Stan, and said "I have this amazing idea... I can take your worst defensive signing in years, give you Connor's buddy who's actually the right kid to fill the hole left by Shaw. They won't even fire me for it! What do you say?" And Stan, totally dumbfounded, said "uh... Where do I sign?"

He looks extremely promising and probably one of the top 5 goalies 25 years old and younger in the league.
