oilers value Broberg very highly. Edmonton would not even do kane for Broberg straight-up and SJS retains. He is already the top prospect in edmonton so unless its for quite a haul, this trade wouldn't even reach Holland's desk

I know Broberg>Kane but you are dumping Neal's overpay in that trade.

They get better futures and you guys get better now.

    I love this top 6

You can build a top 6 of similar quality without having to give up a king's ransom. If the oilers really want to get rid of neal now (which i think they should wait till next year to buyout cause itll be the best time financially to buy him out) then it would require retaining some money and NOT moving a future foundational piece of the defence. Move out a guy like chiasson if immediate space is the goal

You want less term you need to boost the AAV.

    Past 2 years:

    EK: 139, 56-47-103 (0.74 P/GP), 29 years old and costs $7M for the next 5 years
    AA: 131, 41-39-80 (0.61 P/GP), 26 years old and probably costs $3-4M going forward

Honestly I'm not sure I'd trade AA for Kane - the contract is a huge issue and he's at the point of decline now while not being much of an upgrade.

Adding Neal and Broberg is just egregious.

Best way to deal neal is to retain 1.5-2 million turning him into a fairer contract.
I’m not big on the idea of adding a big name or contract next to mcdavid he doesn’t need that and takes away from any small amount of flexibility to address real needs or extensions.

What do you mean McDavid doesn't need that? He's on a line with 3rd liners... lol

You pay a 1st even if you retain 1.5M.

He finished 2nd in the league in points with 97 coming off a massive injury I don’t see sense in investing big bucks to increase his point total to what 110? We seen mcdavid play with hall didn’t work out well tried ebs didn’t work out as well as thought. Maroon did work ennis was working he doesn’t need top end talent to produce just people smart enough to know where to go.
Do people still think neal is the same neal flames had? He had a decent bounce back season before the injury his ice time was limited after returning because of acquisitions of ennis and aa wanting to get a look next to mcdavid at 4million neal is a legit nhl player shouldn’t need any further sweetener

I wouldn't call Nugent-Hopkins a 3rd liner, but maybe that's just me. Another top LW option for McDavid is Athanasiou... over the past 3 seasons AA has outscored Kane at even strength:

    AA: 1.02 ESG/60
    EK: 0.98 ESG/60

Unfortunately for the Oilers. People just don't trust in Neal after one season of being boosted by McDavid.

Other teams don't have talent like McDavid and Neal hardly produced without McDavid on the ice.

That’s fine oilers will just hold onto him for another year let him provide 20-25 goals and revisit trade market next offseason.... just need to be creative to work around the cap he’s not hurting it nearly as much as it’s made out to be. He’s a big reason why oilers pp was top of the league and without that they wouldn’t have been sitting 2nd in division. It’s funny the bad wrap neal russell and larsson get on here but a lot of the team success is because of them. Without russell or larsson it’s almost impossible to see how jones and bear could have had any success.

Sharks reject pretty easily. Broberg is not good enough to warrant taking Neal AND losing Kane. In fact I wouldnt do either

The UFA and RFA signings are pretty accurate I would say, aside from the Ennis deal. He has had a nice, late resurgence in his career. But not a chance the Oilers give him 4 years at at AAV, or just 4 years period. While there may very well be a team thats willing to pay him that, the Oilers are not in that position. He will hopefully enjoy a good run with them this season, and if hes really inclined to stick around, a 1 or 2 year deal up to $2M AAV is what he'll be offered. If he wants to chase the money one last time in his career, it won't be with Edmonton. I could see him going either way. Hes been a nice fit with the Oilers in a short sample of games, but Oilers need money for Bear, Yams, Nuge, Larsson and Nurse all within in the next 2 years. Don't need $2.5 sitting around in year 3 and 4, especially if he begins to decline.

As for the SJ trade, not a chance the Oilers do that. Similar to the above points, the AA is relatively cheap and Broberg still on his ELC and team control for several more years, don't need to jeopardize the cap by bringing in a $7M power forward for many more years. While Kane is no doubt still effective, if the Neal, Lucic, Okposo and Ladd contracts have taught us anything, its that power forwards don't age well. Obviously sending Neal back is nice but 1)can't imagine the sharks like that and 2) for the Oilers, at least Neals buyout is relatively cheap so he could easily be bought out in a year or 2.

I find it funny that Oilers fans won't pay Ennis 2.5M but think that a team will take Neal at 4.25M when Ennis is the better player.

I literally said i cant imagine the sharks like taking Neal....

With forwards like MacLeod and Lavoie coming in the next 2-3 years, and way more urgent needs and contracts to be addressed over Ennis, I don't think its irrational to prefer holding that contract off over the others.
