Description
Habs potential roster for 2020-2021. Habs defense improves drastically and they get a little more offensive punch. St-Louis are strapped against the cap, so they won't be able to match the offer sheet for Vince Dunn. Detroit is rebuilding, so they get a veteran D man to help the young players and a top 10 pick to continue the rebuild.

I think this roster is possible and it makes the Habs more competitive now, without sacrificing to much young talent for the futur.

hanson493, the Red wings will be able to flip Petry at the deadline for another 1st rounder +, adding more to their rebuild.

laugh laugh An aging Jeff Petry and the #9 pick doesn't get you Anthony Mantha, Detroit easily turns that deal down. Once again we don't need RD help we need LD help.

Mantha has to at least start with someone like KK or Suzuki. Taking on someone they can then flip themselves is a huge risk as he could easily get injured. I could see it as a potential 3 way deal with someone else but it’s not worth the risk of having to flip

i hate this mindset. why do people put the onus of flipping players on another team? that makes more work for me. If i know i can get a better package i do it but if i dont know what the players trade market looks like no shot. also. If the blues buy out steen, they have the cap space to match your offersheet....

9OA + Petry who should easily net another first rounder or could sign with Detroit is a good deal. That 9OA could be Holtz, Quinn, etc.

in a flat cap, i dont think a 33 year old dman going into a contract year nets you a first rounder for this year. maybe next year but next years class is so so so much weaker. Ide rather keep mantha if i were detroit.

Why would Detroit have any interest in flipping a Dman that they don't need, If we're dealing Mantha to Montreal we want a similar player at a similar age or younger. Petry makes no sense for us and the #9 pick is probably at least 2-3 years away from being NHL ready Detroit says No Yzerman isn't that stupid to make a deal that absolutely makes no sense for us.

It would be foolish to not consider it though 9OA plus Petry. We are in a position where we could easily retain 50% of Petry at TDL and get a first +. I didn’t say I’d do the deal as we aren’t privy to internal discussion about Mantha’s demands. Maybe his ask is absurd high or maybe he only wants 2 years so he can walk. Yes, he’s come out and says he wants to stay in Detroit but most athletes do this.

Then I guess we're foolish, because you're not getting an Elite shooting Francophone top 6 Forward, for a 1st and Jeff Petry. Add on Caufield or Suzuki, that starts the conversation.

Can we just stop with the Mantha trades? Detroit doesn't want to trade him and most Wings fans won't accept anything you offer.

So in this hypothetical you’d rather have 2 years of Mantha than 9OA + Petry? If I’m reading your statement correctly 9OA + Petry + Suzuki/Caulfield starts the conversation?

Im not even a redwings fan and i know this is a robbery in the making. 33 year old ufa dman... HAS ZERO VALUE TO THE REDWINGS. TEAMS DONT WANT TO FLIP OTHER TEAMS PLAYERS. The only packages that make sense for mantha would be a couple prospects and the 9 overall. they arent adding older players unless its a cap dump.

I would rather have Mantha than 9OA and Petry yes.
They start the conversation because they are not a sure thing. Suzuki is a rookie and Caufield is a prospect. Mantha is established, you know what you are getting. Detroit have no reason to trade him other than "French player to Montreal = good narrative." Both the organisation and the fanbase are high on him. The MLB line was very good last season.

you could also say he would rather 8 years of mantha than 9OA and whatever petry yields in a trade assuming he isnt injured. why is 2 the only logical solution here? not like detroit doesnt have a boatload of capspace.

The deal could easily be tweaked to include another team for futures/prospects.

BLM line was the only reason I watched hockey regularly so I’m pretty aware of how good the line was. My whole premise is Yzerman would at least consider the offer and it’s not a bad one if Mantha was only wanting 2 years. We have no idea of the internal conversations happening about contract demands at the moment.

I never said 2 was the logical solution here. I merely stated that we don’t know the internal dialogue. Maybe Mantha wants 10M or 6M or 2 years or 8 years. We can play hypotheticals all day on this site. Like I said earlier my decision is really based on those internal discussions we aren’t privy too and I’d rather have 9OA + flipping Petry for picks/prospects than 2 years of Mantha (if that’s the route he wants) if he wants 5-8 years at a reasonable price then I’d keep him all day.
