Ummm, wtf. Stl is gonna pay more than a second to get rid of that money, not get rewarded for it. Phi might take a garbage contract at some point but they sure as balls aren't paying for it.

Philly needs a starter. And judging by both teams lack of significant cap space. Allen's a solid goaltender for his price tag. There are more teams in need of a starting goaltender then there is talent

Did you come out of a coma today? Philly has a starter. Philly might end up with a top 10 starter by next seasons end. 74 starts, 915 sv%. Why is everyone trying to dump worse starters on Philly?

Yea Philly has some kid named Carter Hart, I've heard he's pretty good.

Also though Jake Allen could be a desirable piece for a couple of teams including BUF, CGY, DET, CAR and potentially even MIN (although I doubt they move him to a div rival).

He's also on an expiring deal so the short term money with no commitment could be enticing for even a team like PIT if they decide to cash in on Murray instead of signing him.

If this deal is going to go through, go Allen for Elliott and add a third with STL

This is an off-season trade. Why would the blues trade for a free agent in Elliot?

I have high hopes for Hart in Philly. But you don't want to be in your window for contention and Hart gets hurt, hasn't fully developed, or doesn't pan out. Allen is a short term contract with an opportunity to extend if they want to or trade away at a later date. They aren't going to go chasing the other free agency goaltenders like Holtby or Lehner because they don't have the cap to.

Unfortunately Jake Allen is no longer available because if everyone is desperate for 4+ million backups then why would Stl move him? Jake only makes sense to someone looking to cash in on this season as a starter and ignore the last 3 years before this. Philly would only be flipping him later if he isn't of much use and if that's the case they are not getting their 2nd back for him. I understand if Hart gets hurt things go bad but imagine what you are saying to your young starter if you just trade for a big contract goaltender and tell him "it's just in case"

I don’t know. I was just offering an alternative to this trade
