Not how I personally see it.

This year's draft is quite deep. Buffalo's 1st will be one of Perfetti, Sanderson, Holtz, Raymond, Askarov, or Rossi.
I also believe that Mittelstadt could turn things around and become Mtl's 3C / 2LW eventually (With KK & Suzuki at 1 & 2C) with heavy PP usage.
So if on top of that you get Jeff Petry's replacement Montour signed for 7 years. That's a lot of great pieces coming Mtl's way.

Just like Buffalo fixes their 2C problem for many years to bring along Cozens more smoothly. And strengthen their LD side with Mete sliding in behind Dahlin on the left side for the next decade. They'd be one of the best Dcorp at transitions in the league on the left side.

You have to give to get.

Why would you help a team in our division. They're heading for cap hell, let them.

You give a top 4 defenseman in Mete for Montour who's a bottom pair d-man.
You give a top 6 forward for a very uncertain prospect and a huge cap dumb.

Giving too much for too little in my opinion

For the buffalo trade I’d rather leave it at montour + 1st for Domi + 3rd round pick. Take out mete, middlestat and okposo

I think this is where we disagree. I see Montour as a 3RD (i.e. Petry's replacement) and that's why I would extend him 7 years at $5.5M AAV given the chance.
His situation clearly reeks him stuck on a bad team as Petry was. I see Montour has a guy that will lock the 3RD spot and provide 25-40 pts per year for the next 7 years.

Mete is younger, but likely tops out as a 3LD in his best years producing in the 20-35 pts range while being smaller than Montour. So that's an upgrade for Mtl.

Domi's value is around what 8th overall + a small add would be, which is why I think that by "lowering" the value of that 8th OA pick through a retained Okposo (Habs need a 4th line RW anyway), that a package of Domi + a late 1st could entice them to throw Mittelstadt into the mix.

Again, I see Mittelstadt as a guy that could have a resurgence and somehow could become the centerpiece of this whole trade if he somehow turns into a 55-70 pts guy a la Domi but again, with more size if he can put on some more muscles (he's only 21 afterall.) If not, i'm more than content in that trade to have him become a reliable 3rd line 35-50 pts guy.

That would be one of the worst contract ever given by the Habs. Petry was a good d-man on a bad team, Montour is a bad d-man on a bad team.

Mmmm we would be stupid to pass on that trade. Get rid of Okposo. Get a 2nd line center, and still get a 1st round pick in the trade.
