Why protecting Milano over Silfverberg ?

@GMs Older guy and at the end of his contract I feel production will dip. Despite his good production on the offensive end. He isn't consistent enough for me to think its worth keeping him for the next 3 years. Also we have so many younger guys coming up we need to make room for.

Silfverberg over Henrique but I think both will be protected and Mahura only gets protected if Manson is moved.

If getzlaf is not signed before the expansion draft it’ll be Henrique Silfverberg Terry Steel Heinen Lundestrom Jones. If Getzlaf is signed he replaces Lundestrom or Jones.

Obviously this is all as of right now and could change based on acquisitions and performances next season.

@Jah1722 I agree. But why protect Getzlaf tho? As a huge fan and someone that wants him on the team. Protecting a 36 YO guy is a not a good idea. We are no where close to making a competitive playoff run. Losing Jones, Lunderstrom and Mahura will hurt alot imo. Also if Both Henrique and Silfverberg are protected I know for a fact one of these players will be selected and my guess it would be Lunderstrom or Mahura.

I can guarantee you that neither Lundestrom or Mahura will be as good as Theodore. It’s not as big of a deal this time around. Plus you can’t re-sign Getzlaf and then not protect him. Bad business.

@Jah1722 Eh... then let him walk or retire. Yea it would be a bad look if we did resign him and then not protect him. Tough situation and I wasn't comparing these players to Theodore but in the same breath I can guarantee you we aren't in a spot to let young players go and are no where close to even competing in the playoffs, which in my eyes is something you are intending to do if you keep at 35+ yo player. Therefore, I rather invest our protections for future players and I think Mahura and Lunderstrom will be very serviceable for our future endeavors.

Manson will be a pending UFA, no? Or does he have 1 extra year left?

Also I'd protect Heinen, and probably a few other players over Jones

Don’t you have to protect Getzlaf, and Kesler because of their NMC?? I am almost certain that you have to protect NMCs unless you end up trading them.

Manson will have 1 year left at the time of the expansion draft but he’ll have more value than any of the other D the ducks have. I had Heinen protected in my list.

Getzlaf is UFA before the expansion draft and Kelser’s NMC turns into a modified NTC.

Milano didn’t look that great. Sure he was solid but Silfverberg was the ducks best fwd all season. Not a chance Milano is protected over Silfverberg and he’d have to have a pretty good season to join the list.

Would fowler be taken with such a long contract amd his injury history

@Jah1722 @Foreskin_Gump So although I agree with both of your sentiments about Silfverberg the prominent reason I didn't have him on my protections list is because I personally value Henrique over him moving forward especially after the 2019-2020 season. Also his contract imo will be less and less desirable as time moves on especially with a flat cap NHL. Nevertheless, it will ultimately come down to who has a better 2020-2021 season.

The ducks will have plenty of cap space for 21-22. Getz will get half what he makes now, backes gone, Perry buy out goes back down, Gudbranson comes off the books the contracts aren’t that big of a deal for a few years.
