I was thinking of doing this post a couple of days ago, but got stuck on the Shaw comparable.

I think Mitchell for JP is what I had.

No way am I moving any NHL ready pieces for a guy that we're unsure is even going to be ready for NHL style hockey again and hasn't shown consistency in North America ever. But you're right, this would be a classic Bowman offseason.

Guys... @NickC1988 @SlickWilly @JackBurton @Stan_Bowman @ChiHawk and yes even @HatterTParty (hehe) Are we going to recognize what Stan just pulled off here? We're glossing over one of the best things he does. Pius Suter, Kubalik, Kampf, Kahun (he was free), Rutta, Kempny, and yes even Panarin. Like...I hate on him when he makes bad trades...she link below for proof, but let's give props when they're due too!

I wont say whos better yet, but Jokiharju has appeared to stagnate a little bit and didnt show as much growth as he could have after a stellar freshman year, while Nylander appears to have come out of his shell a little bit.

Kempny turned out to be okay for us, getting a 3rd rounder out of basically thin air (but great for Kempny!), Rutta was okay because Koekkoek is a decent stopgap but may not be a future mainstay, so that could be a wash unless we trade Koekkoek for anything of substance. Kahun could probably end up working out if we get a 3rd for Maatta or something as well, otherwise its just kind of a null. Kubalik is a major W and we will see how Suter turns out, but Bowman is just bad at asset management. He acquires nice things, but doesnt know how to properly evaluate those things.

woah woah woah....I see and 3rd round pick for free. I see Koekkoek for free. I see Maatta for free, but can see your point. due to COVID he might be bought out. I don't blame Bowman for COVID. I see Kubalik as a W...and you're forgetting Panarin. Just acknowledge it. We got 151 points for losing zero assets. IN FACT, Bowman's committment to Panarin's 82nd game got Panarin an EXTRA $1M+ in bonuses. THAT'S the reason the rest of these guys signed. They know the Blackhawks will truly give them a shot...AND give them a chance for the big bonuses. THAT IS asset management at it's finest! Truly

I agree, its good that we get things for free, but its a little disheartening knowing in the back of your mind that you could have gotten more. Like for sure, the Rutta and Kempny situations were good, probably couldnt have gone better for us. Kahun, it was good to take a chance on a good candidate to rebound on our weak side of defense, and it definitely could have ended worse. But with Panarin, we couldve used that opportunity to restock our cupboard, or gotten another game changing forward. Saad is good, but he isnt a game-breaker. I agree, that Bowman's strength is finding these guys and getting us these great opportunities, but it just feels like he isnt making the most of those opportunities, which is why he gets dumped on so much, and sure he gets a lot more hate than he deserves for it, but to say that getting things for free is great and we should be happy about it when we could have gotten better things for free seems like a fib.

I agree with you on Panarin. He should have been able to get more. I will say though that...at the time...there was a question as to whether he was essentially (a slightly better) Victor Olofsson. Great shot. PP force. That does indeed mean alot, but I mean it all sincerity...did you think at the time Panarin could even be in the Hart conversation? I honestly didn't think there was a chance of that. That's just me though.

I mean, if that was their opinion on him, why would they have traded him though? If that was all he was, his cap hit wasnt gonna go up too much and they wouldnt have needed to finagle under the cap ceiling

I also think that this could be a similar discussion to the Marner-Tavares combo people always pose. It doesnt matter if he scores 70 when he should only be scoring 50 because hes with Kane. He would be getting paid to play alongside Kane for the foreseeable future anyway, and you are going to be getting that combined skillset that works so well.

I’m assuming we’re talking about his getting European players. With Suter, I really hope he ends up like kubalik. Kubalik is a W. Kampf is decent depth. Kempny and rutta both ended up being better off elsewhere. Kahun for maatta, I mean, ehh. I will say that European players seem to see appeal in Chicago. I don’t know if stan is the reason, but, like all 3 cups, I guess we gotta give him the credit.

Panarin is one I’ll never defend. We got him for free, sure. Yet, when we traded him, we didn’t get anything elite back. No 1st rounders, no A prospects. Just Saad, really. Now, I get that AT THE TIME, we were a playoff team, and having Saad maybe better come that time. Panarin did great with Columbus though. Saad for Chicago? I mean, better this year. But no, I’m way shape or form can I defend this trade. We got him free, and honestly gave him away for free.

To be fair, Anton Forsberg was the other piece in that, Bowman was trying to plug two holes with one player out. He gambled wildly on a terrible risk and it took a giant **** all over him.

Dale Tallon build the core of the championship-winning team and all stan had to do was but the depth around it and it made him look like he was a better gm than he was because he "won" 3 cups. As soon as it came to paying all these guys we were screwed and he's made a lot of his dumb moves trying to save cap space (panarin trade, tuevo trade, etc.)
